What are you getting your DS for Christmas?

I keep thinking, when did toys start to cost over $100??

You know, I have had this conversation with DH. He normally doesn't have a problem buying expensive toys, so I asked him if his parents ever bought him a single toy that cost $100. His response, "No way!" Even if he had asked for one, his mother probably would have told him he was going "whole hog".

If you ask my DS (7) all he wants is a Roboraptor. I bought it and WOW this thing is like 6 feet long!! Where Am I gonna put it!!??

my son's are a lot younger (4yo and 2 mos old) however my 4 yo wants a Doodle Monster, "piano" (keyboard) and a scooter. The baby is getting two small toys this year, so for the both of them i'm only spending around $150.

Last year we got him the Thomas wooden train table, and that put us out close to $400 - yikes.

I'm sure in a few years we'll be just where you are now with the expensive electronic toys on the wish list.

Well, I am so glad it is actually possible for a child to be over the age of 7 and still believe in the "magic". We thought for sure this would be the last year for DS7 but now there is hope! A couple of kids at school last year told him and he argued them down!

So anyway, Santa is bringing him a new bike since he's outgrown his old one, Lego Star Wars PS2 game, the Star Wars lightsaber challenge plug and play game, Shrek Operation game, Sky High DVD, pjs, I say a basketball goal, DH says no. DS wants a new Gameboy Advance SP since he lost the one Santa gave him 2 years ago. He also lost the 4 games that were in his carrying case at the time. I told him that Santa doesn't bring duplicate gifts if you have lost the one he brought. But he is absolutely STUCK on getting another one. I just don't know. The jury is still out on this one. I am not crazy about him looking at such a SMALL screen! Can't be good for the eyes.
If Santa does bring another handheld, I would much rather it be a PSP because the screen is a good bit bigger than any of the others, but GOOD GOLLY those things are expensive.

I'm in the process of trying to shorten my DS's (7) list right now. I knew it was long, but until I started adding it all up I had NO idea it amounted to that many $$$$!

So far we have the Power Ranger Command Center Megazord, Roboraptor, some PS2 and GC games. Still need to get a PSP and a few other misc. things that I want him to have.

I counted the items on his list and it's something like 28 things! It's only because I kept on and on about it. He doesn't really ask for a lot, but I like to get a nice long list because all of the grandparents want part of it too. At least we can divide it up that way.

I stumbled over a book I'd suggest for any boys, or even girls I suppose, aged 8 to 13, depending on the actual kid, of course.

It is called 'Oh, Yuck!: The Encyclopedia of Everything Nasty' by Joy Masoff. Really a fascinating and disgusting read. Will rivet young minds for hours.

Oh yeah! My DS would love that book! Anything gross or nasty is right up his alley!

My DS is also interested in the Guiness World book of Records so I told one of his Aunts that he'd like that. I dont' want him to get just Video games or DVD's...I like books for him too! Even if it talks about the woman who grew her fingernails 3 feet long! (Or would that be Ripley's Believe it or not?)

We did this when DS was 3 or 4 and he played with it up until he was about 8. We invested a lot of money in his table and trains and we have wrapped them up and put them in the attic until some day when we have grandkids.

Well, I am so glad it is actually possible for a child to be over the age of 7 and still believe in the "magic". We thought for sure this would be the last year for DS7 but now there is hope! A couple of kids at school last year told him and he argued them down!

We have also experienced other kids trying to make DS not believe, but he keeps holding on. He said over the summer that he had proof (at least a friend did) that Santa was real and he was relieved! Not sure how much longer he will believe, but we will enjoy it while he still does.

So far the only thing my DS8 has asked for is a 'Sony disc-man"....I didn't even know that they made them anymore....considering IPODS and all. Anyway, I found one for $20 so that will be one gift....but now I need more! Of course, he got some Play Station games (Madden 2005 and Backyard football), Game boy games, CD's, Quarterback challenge, and a Baseball pitch back (not sure what the "technical" name is) I think instead of the IPOD,m I might buy an MP-3 player to see how he makes out with that....since he hasn't asked for the IPOD, why push it, right?

Last year, his list had a million things on it.....I have no idea what is up with him this year. We totally overindulge in Christmas.......but I don't want to overindulge with things that he isn't asking for!!!!!!!

DS13 and DD15 are both getting their Master's Club weapons pack for karate. The thing looks like a martial arts arsenal...escrima sticks, tonfas, nanchakus, kubatans and kamas. DS will also get a dagger (dulled). DD already has hers. They actually need these items for their training. Not exactly the image that comes to mind when you normally think of C'mas morning. {{shudder}}

My ds is 8, and he states he" knows there is no santa, that we buy the gifts"! But he none the less has a very long list! He wants skate board stuff (to make his own board) which is very pricey! Along with many, many video games! And, a very expensive bat! Easily his list is over $500! He just got a PSP for straight A's and a good football season! He also has a gameboy ds, playstation2, ninetendo gamecube, and X box! You would think video games were his life, but actually sports are! The PSP is kind of neat for those of you thinking about buying one!

Does he have any interests beyond what was on his list? My DS picked up an interest in stars & astronomy this year, so we got him a telescope & some books on constellations. It is hard to shop for kids once they hit that age, isn't it?

We also got our 12 yr old son a telescope. And a Fly pen.

My DS10 is getting a new scooter,hoover disc,nerf football,new Star Wars movie,Harry Potter Quidditch video game,Cd,Build your own Lightsaber,Motobike(bike that looks like a real dirtbike)Star Wars video game and all the Harry Potter movies.Also things that he needs pants,shoes ,etc.

My DS8 is getting pretty much the same except that instead of the lightsaber he is getting a new Cd player.And the video games are different.

There big presents are the bikes.They saw a commercial for them last summer and never forgot.

Now I just have to finish the stockings.BTW,I don't know if they still believe,I am not asking.They wrote their letters as usual.

Last year when my DS9 (at the time), started asking about Santa, we just told him "what do you mean? Do you think we'd buy you all those toys? We can't afford toys! We would just get you clothes!" His reply was "oh yeah...what was I thinking?"

Then to firm it up a little more, I bought a pair of plain white gloves (from Party City ~ the costume kind) & I left one on the table next to the empty dish of cookies & half drank milk! (Very clever, don't you think!??) In the morning, my DS gets up & comes downstairs & has to pass thru the kitchen before getting to the presents in the familyroom & he spotted the glove! OH!! It was just sooooooo magical the look on his face! He actually gasped & clutched his chest! It was so cute! He told anybody that would listen that Santa left his glove behind when he took it off to eat our cookies! This year he just hasn't said anything except "I hope I get (whatever) for Christmas."
