This will be our first Christmas with our little shih tzu so the plan is to get him a few treats for his stocking (yes, we have to get him a stocking according to my girls), a couple of little toys and some treats. Not going to go overboard but it should be real interesting to watch him react to us opening our gifts....he makes a toy out of anything he finds so I see a lot of wrapping paper flying around the room
My shih tzu is almost eight years old. It is almost impossible not to spoil those little lap mutts.

My shih tzu and akitas both have stockings with their names on them. The shih tzu will get soft rubber squeaky toys, stuffed cloth squeaky toys, Lean Treats, small rawhide chews, small greenies, new hair bows, and probably a new sweater. The akita will get a large basted bone and a cow hoof both for outside chewing, pig ears, large greenies, and some new Kong and Cuz toys. Both will get some turkey of course. The macaw parrot will get some new wooden toys to hang in his cage.
My dogs love stuffed hedgehogs. I don't know why, but hedgehogs are their favorite. I always buy them when I find them on sale.
I think all dogs love those hedgehogs. My shih tzu has had several of both the large and small ones (she still does, they just don't squeak anymore.) When she was younger and a tiny puppy, she had one bigger than she was.

She used to pounce on it, roll over it, chew on it's nose, and then when she finally got big enough to carry it around, she'd try to run with it and trip over the thing, going head over heels. Then we got our akita, who at only six weeks old managed to destroy her whole toy box full of stuffed toys.

Now we have to keep her toys seperate and only get out a few at time, so we can watch him. He's broken just about all the squeakers in her stuffed toys, but for some reason doesn't bother her smaller rubber squeaking toys.

The only thing he hasn't been able to destroy are his Kongs and Cuz's, which he loves, but which she hides from him in places he is too large to get into.

Her favorite place to hide his Cuz's is underneath the parrot's cage. She is small enough to slide under there, but he's not. She'll make sure he sees her with a Cuz, then takes off running with it under the parrot's cage, with him chasing her. If the akita approaches the bird cage, the parrot screams, "bad dog, bad dog" at the top of his lungs, as the shih tzu slides out the other side of the cage, leaving the Cuz underneath.

I swear she always has a huge smile on her face as she does it. They are hilarious. He knows he can't get under there and as the parrot screams and lunges at him, scolding him at the top of his voice, the akita sits back and howls like a banshee like he's being killed. Hmm, maybe I should consider getting the macaw parrot some xanax for Christmas.

Pets, you gotta love them!
