With all the threads here asking about Christmas gifts, I was wondering what everyone is getting their dog (or other pet) for Christmas this year? Any good budget suggestions?

I have two dogs and they won't be getting anything than a vacation to the kennel as we are going out of town!

:beach:

I don't have a dog, because of my allergies. But my Nephdog (my sister's dog) is quite spoiled by his favorite aunt. I work at BJs wholesale, so he gets club sized boxes of Milk Bones, Beggin Strips, rawhide bones, and doggie Christmas cookies. And of course, I load up on Benadryl so I can lay on the floor with him and give him a good long belly rub

This will be our first Christmas with our little shih tzu so the plan is to get him a few treats for his stocking (yes, we have to get him a stocking according to my girls), a couple of little toys and some treats. Not going to go overboard but it should be real interesting to watch him react to us opening our gifts....he makes a toy out of anything he finds so I see a lot of wrapping paper flying around the room :)

Our girl will get bully sticks in her stocking. My kids will want to all give her a present from them so I'm sure we will go yo the pet store to shop. She loves those little hide and seek toys. She loves the hedgehog one the best so we will probably get another one of those.

Since none of our dogs can read a calendar, I usually hit the after Christmas sale at Pet Smart and buy Christmas themed toys on deep discount and my dogs celebrate Christmas around December 28th :p

Our dog is old and no longer plays with his toys so he just gets a special treat.

:rotfl: :lmao: :thumbsup2

Yeah, honestly, I thought this thread was a tongue in cheek joke :rolleyes1

But seriously- my dog and my cat- what they crave more than anything?
Attention and time.
Belly rubs and head scratches.
Walks in the woods and an occasional treat from the table.

So we just try to keep them involved in the family festivities and spend some serious quality time together.
All the cat really wants is a warm lap to nap on and after eating Christmas dinner there are multiple location choices for that activity.

Now the REAL question is what are you getting your chickens and goats for Christmas ;)

Ours are getting grain and kitchen scraps :goodvibes

We have a cat and we usually just get some toys and throw out the old ones from last year.

We always buy our dogs the big stockings full of toys. They're full of things our dogs love, it tend to destroy so quickly that we don't buy them year round. Juno loves little stuffies, but they meet a violent end quickly. We give her one a day until they're gone.

The cats will get some new jingle balls and I may invest in a cat tree this year.

We have two Maltese and they have stockings right next to ours. :)

Last year and this year they are getting a Barkbox to share (used a code so it was only $10), and they usually get more bully sticks or new antler chews if they are running low. We don't feed them many commercial dog treats (usually just fresh veggies) so there's not a whole lot to get for them! It's tough finding tiny toys for them that they don't already have...and they are so gentle on their toys that we hardly ever buy them a new one.

Out dogs have stockings too! I thought we were just weird (although sure we still are) for doing this. My daughter is an only child so our dogs are spoiled. Usually they get treats, rawhides, and some toys. Nothing to crazy.

Heck, my dog even exchanges gifts with the other dogs in the complex. She gets treats and toys and I let her shred the wrapping paper (the absolute BEST in her world!:rotfl2:)

Yes, she's spoiled and we are proud of it!

I'm giving my dog a couple packs of her favorite tennis balls, and a big box filled with empty water bottles.
I'll give my cat some catnip and the guinea pig will get an extra carrot.

Santa usually leaves our cat a can or pouch of tuna in her stocking. We give the same to the extended-family cats, and we make homemade dog biscuits for the dogs - when there is extra room in our luggage for that sort of stuff (we travel to family for Christmas). If there is no room, then they do without!

My dogs love stuffed hedgehogs. I don't know why, but hedgehogs are their favorite. I always buy them when I find them on sale.

My two labs have a giant stocking they share! They get new toys (a large unstuffed animal as labs love to carry things around) and some treats and usually a new bed.

Well, mine just got diagnosed with a food allergy so we'll have to stick to fruit, veggie and fish. She'll get some pumpkin treats, PB and blueberry treats, the salmon sticks I use to hide her benadryl and some zuke's chew bones in beet and apple. She's not one for toys so we're save there. But she does need a dog bed -- her old one can't be washed and is just worn out.

My shih tzu is almost eight years old. It is almost impossible not to spoil those little lap mutts.:rotfl: My shih tzu and akitas both have stockings with their names on them. The shih tzu will get soft rubber squeaky toys, stuffed cloth squeaky toys, Lean Treats, small rawhide chews, small greenies, new hair bows, and probably a new sweater. The akita will get a large basted bone and a cow hoof both for outside chewing, pig ears, large greenies, and some new Kong and Cuz toys. Both will get some turkey of course. The macaw parrot will get some new wooden toys to hang in his cage.

I think all dogs love those hedgehogs. My shih tzu has had several of both the large and small ones (she still does, they just don't squeak anymore.) When she was younger and a tiny puppy, she had one bigger than she was.:rotfl: She used to pounce on it, roll over it, chew on it's nose, and then when she finally got big enough to carry it around, she'd try to run with it and trip over the thing, going head over heels. Then we got our akita, who at only six weeks old managed to destroy her whole toy box full of stuffed toys. Now we have to keep her toys seperate and only get out a few at time, so we can watch him. He's broken just about all the squeakers in her stuffed toys, but for some reason doesn't bother her smaller rubber squeaking toys.:confused3 The only thing he hasn't been able to destroy are his Kongs and Cuz's, which he loves, but which she hides from him in places he is too large to get into.:rotfl: Her favorite place to hide his Cuz's is underneath the parrot's cage. She is small enough to slide under there, but he's not. She'll make sure he sees her with a Cuz, then takes off running with it under the parrot's cage, with him chasing her. If the akita approaches the bird cage, the parrot screams, "bad dog, bad dog" at the top of his lungs, as the shih tzu slides out the other side of the cage, leaving the Cuz underneath.:rotfl2: I swear she always has a huge smile on her face as she does it. They are hilarious. He knows he can't get under there and as the parrot screams and lunges at him, scolding him at the top of his voice, the akita sits back and howls like a banshee like he's being killed. Hmm, maybe I should consider getting the macaw parrot some xanax for Christmas.:rotfl: Pets, you gotta love them!:rotfl:

Our lab Bella will get a new Kong toy. She has finally destroyed the one she has. She will also get a new treat and stuffed toy to destroy. ;) DD also has a hamster that I am sure we will have to get treats for.

Thanks for all the great ideas and reviews! I looked up the Cuz toy and I think we'll get our 10 yr old Golden one of those. Whoever posted about a big box full of water bottles is a genius! My dog totally loves empty water bottles and 2 liter bottles. She wouldn't know what to do with a whole box of those! She'd go crazy trying to decide which one to play with first. Think I'll start saving up all the empty bottles in a box.

I wonder if an entire box of tennis balls would make her crazy too!

We also get her a new Nylabone Wishbone every year. She loves those and they last a long, long time. The ends are usually sharp shanks by the next year.
