Don't know if this is particularly "budget" related (except that I think CSA's are a pretty good deal), but we've discussed CSA's on here before in other threads and I'm curious what other people in other areas get from theirs. So... what did you get from your CSA?

Our first distribution for the season was this week. We got:

1. Japanese turnips
2. Baby bok choy
3. Broccoli rabe
4. Arugula
5. Lettuce
6. Spinach

Fruit: Strawberries

We used some of the turnips & bok choy in a stir fry recipe last night & it was really good! Looking forward to some yummy salads this weekend with our lettuces. :)

This was my 3rd week for our CSA. So far we've gotten:
Arugula
Leaf Lettuce
Spring Mix
Mizuna (it's a Japanese green)
Vitamin Greens (Japanese green)
Radishes
Salad Turnips
Leeks
Mustard Greens

Lots and Lots of greens...we've been making yummy pastas and stir frys with them!

Yep -- no idea what CSA is, but I can tell by context that it must be a gardening program.

I'm not a fan of acronyms. Once you get past the ones everyone knows, such as FBI, it's best to spell it out!

Community Supported Agriculture - essentially produce by subscription. You sign up at the beginning of the season for a share of whatever the farm produces, usually on a weekly basis.

Community-supported agriculture (in Canada Community Shared Agriculture)

A CSA consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation where the growers and consumers share the risks and benefits of food production. CSAs usually consist of a system of weekly delivery or pick-up of vegetables and fruit in a vegetable box scheme, sometimes including dairy products and meat.

My CSA hasn't started to deliver yet.. probably either the 11th or 18th will be our first week..I attribute this to early May snow.

We got our first delivery this week too.

Lettuce (red & green leaf)
Basil
Radishes
Carrots
Spring onions
Spinach
Zucchini

No fruit this week, but they've promised us peaches next week.

Ahh..I am sure my rural New Mexico area doesn't have it. We do have farmer's markets so will begin checking those out.

Just had to say hi, since I'm from Baltimore! :)

I hope we get some carrots & zucchini some time, yum yum. The fruit in ours is a separate share & comes from a different farm; you can choose to get it or you can just get the veggie share. We also have an optional egg share which I'm thinking of adding - farm fresh eggs are so good!
