What are you doing on the 4th

Question: Do you get a long-weekend out of this somehow or just Thursday off? Canada Day is tomorrow and it's great when it works out like that (a Monday or a Friday). If not we just have a random, mid-week civic holiday.
It really varies here.

When I worked at the call center for the insurance company we only got 4th of July off and if it fell on a weekend no extra days (like if it fell on a Saturday you wouldn't get Friday off)--only Christmas Eve/Christmas changed that schedule.

My husband's company on the other hand they get 4th of July off and oftentimes the next day depending on when it falls.

When I worked retail the places I worked for never closed for 4th of July but most of the retail I worked for would pay holiday pay (normally time and a half) so it was something if I had to work (and most times I did). When I worked for my alma mater I did not get time and a half/holiday pay unfortunately though I still worked part of 4th of July-that location was open 8am-8pm 365 days of the year.

Probably consist of hanging out/probably grilling, maybe playing Mexican Train (if we can convince my husband--he hates playing games) and then this year they want to go to a different place and watch fireworks put on by a city.

I vastly prefer Corporate Woods (which is an office park) firework display (@Micca have you ever watched it?) which is just amazing IMO though we watch from outlying streets these days it's too crazy to go inside. Last year the in-laws set off fireworks at their house while my husband and I went to Corporate Woods area.

TBH 4th of July is not the most fun for me because I have sensitive ears and thus being constantly scared of people setting off fireworks (which is largely illegal in most cities in my area though still people set them off) isn't really fun. I have noise reduction headphones these days (a life saver really) and love to watch fireworks when I have the chance to put those headphones on rather than random loud booms but the days leading up to the 4th of July and actual 4th of July are often filled with random unexpected loud booms.

I will be an outrider for my husband's motorcycle drill team. They're riding in the 4th of July parade in Show Low (AZ). It'll be nice to go from 108 degrees to 84 degrees!

Thursday night fireworks are a bummer. lol So we will watch fireworks in town and I think we're going to smoke some pizzas on the Traeger. Just like they did in the days of yore. lol

DH and I both have the day off, so probably working on our bathroom remodel. Fun I know :upsidedow

We attended a local fireworks show with friends last night, so I don't anticipate watching any. We might for a few in the drive, but no real plans. If our work had turned it into a 4 day weekend we'd be camping or out and about, but instead we have to be back at work Friday.

I'm only have Thursday off. However, this week is very popular for vacations, either the entire week or choosing Friday as a vacation day.

In years past when July 4 fell on a Tuesday or Thursday I've sometimes taken the Monday before or the Friday after off, but I'm planning to work this year.

My company's stores are open 365 days. I think part-time store associates just receive standard pay for July 4, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. Time and a half for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Day. Double time for Christmas Day.

This year we have Thursday and Friday off but Friday off is a regular summer work week. Next summer, they are giving us a "summer break" and we get a whole week off (the 4th is on Saturday). Hoping that is a tradition that continues!

My husband gets Thursday as a paid holiday and is taking a vacation day on Friday because he has more than he needs for the rest of the year, and it's a take it or lose it company when it comes to vacation. My son is on-call on Thursday but doesn't have to go in unless there's a problem, and he works Friday. My daughter gets Thursday as a paid holiday and works Friday. There have been years when the 4th was on a Thursday that my husband had both Thursday and Friday off. I think it depends on how the company decides to designate holidays each year.

Edit: Oh, and I teach preschool, so I'm off for the summer.

Lunch at the senior living place with mother-in-law. Maybe watch fireworks on TV that night.
