Inside and outside

I'm not a big outdoor decorator for Christmas. A few lights on the shrubs, bough with ribbons on the doors, wreaths on the windows. I hang my wreaths on a 15" plaid ribbon from the top of the window, they fall in the middle of each window. Each wreath only has a bow. A kissing ball hanging from the corner of the front porch.

For someone who goes all out for other holidays, I simplify Christmas.
I just put away over 15 boxes of Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations.

Indoors I'm going with a silver and blue theme. Living room has most of the decorations, with a few things scattered throughout the house. The Christmas Tree, A Christmas Village set up in front of the window, Christmas Caroler's set up on an outdoor shelf of the China Cabinet. I do collect Santa's new and old from around the world, and new and old Nativity sets also from around the world. I do not put them all out. There's just too many of them. A few this year a few next year. (I never stop buying though). Oh yes and the recently made gingerbread house. (a family tradition) Every year we all get together the Sunday after Thanksgiving and make Gingerbread Houses. DH says I'm driving him crazy with these get together parties. Every year there are more and more of us.

What are your decorating plans I always like to hear what others do?

I first read this 3 or 4 days ago, and felt in awe. We have fewer than 15 boxes of Christmas decorations, and what we put out for Halloween and Thanksgiving have their own little places in some hall cabinets.

Anyway, I am listening to Disney's Candlelight Processional, it's one of my favorite CD's and I thought of this tread again, and wanted to chime in. This year, trains are our focus, and I took out our sons' Lego train, DH took out his older set and got them to work! But darling dog was afraid, or maybe thought it was something to catch, and so the antique train went back in the box, and the Lego train has the place of honor, on a table.

You reminded me of my creche collection, but that's hidden away, maybe it's in the 15th box.

We will head to NJ for Christmas celebrations with cousins and aunts, usually we have Coast Guard Recruist in our Cape May house. That's our true "special" Christmas Tradition, the US Coast Guard has recruit training in Cape May and local hosts can sponsor some for a reprieve from training on Christmas. This year we called too late to qualify, plus instead of the usual 500 recruits, there are only 250-300 in a class that qualifies for the off day.

I just learned what a Kissing Ball was, from a friend who makes them for her church, so decorations are not be my strong point, but I enjoy looking at others, and in fact will tour the historic district homes in Dayton this evening.

Any more "takers" to tell us about Christmas decorations and traditions?

Bobbi :D

No lights, no tree yet, not even a wreath on the door. :( I hope to rectify this dismal situation this weekend. :)

I never got around to putting up our artificial tree in the living room this year, I'm just so unorganized this Christmas. When it is up, it's decorated in gold, ivory, pale pink, and seafoam green. Very formal looking. The family room tree (real), which I hope to get tomorrow, is multi-coloured lights, very casual.

I did buy a North Pole Express Christmas train the other week, to put around the base of the tree. It plays Christmas carols, and has moving penguins on it..lol. I don't know what possessed me! We set it up on the living room floor last night while my niece was here. She stood in the middle pretending she was the Christmas tree (she's 4). She loved it! :)

I do have some Dicken's Village houses I hope to get set up too.

Bobbi, the dog was afraid of the train? Aww...cute! :D

Do the Kissing Balls work better than Mistletoe, Mamu? ;) :)

I bought a wreath but couldnt get it to stay put on the door so i put it on the mailbox...mailbox thru the middle of the wreath..looks stupid but who cares? not me. i also threw some santa hats on our porch lights..once again...stupid , but who cares?

Instead of hauling up all the big rubbermaid containers of christmas stuff from the basement...I took a basket down and just chose a few things...some santas, snowmen...did put some lights and stockings in the mud room but can't find the drill to put a whole in the bench for the wires because the electrician put the electric socket in the bench..lot of good it's doing me in there.

fake prelit tree looks great in the bedroom...and bought these huge blow up christmas bulbs with lights in them..fun..but again, stupid. kids like them.

yeah..not into decorating this year.
