I've put the pork ribs in the oven and I've got to start the
black eyed peas. The collards have been washed. I'll also make some mashed potatoes and deviled eggs. Sorry if you're reading this with a hangover.

Do I put a penny in the peas or collards? I'm thinking it is suppose to go in the peas. Anyone know? My mother ususally does the cooking but she broke her ankle.

Thanks,

Lori

nothing........I'm off to bed for my first full night of sleep for 2004;)

Roast Beef with mushroom gravy from the crock pot
Mashed potatoes (real...never boxed or frozen)
Black eyed peas for luck
greens for money
brown and serve rolls.
Sweet iced tea, of course!

Great way to start the new year!

I'm cooking for a party I'm hosting tomorrow night:D POC, I had some friends from Little Rock, Arkansas, and they always put a dime in the black eyed peas on New Year's Day:D

Thanks, Kteacher! So if I put in a silver dollar will I be really, really rich?

Lori

We are going to my mom's house for chinese food. We do every New Years day. It a tradition to start the year off together.
Hope every has sa great day and a healthy and happy year

My mom is making the traditional New Year's food, black-eyed peas, Collard Greens and some kind of Pork. I don't like anything she is making so my traditional meal will be Veal Scallopini, Italian Sausage Tortellini w/alfredo sauce and a salad. :)

I never heard of putting money in balck eye peas before. MY peas are already cooked and my DH is having stuffed salmon and I'm having cubed steak with my peas.

Ham, cole slaw, pinapple stuffing and maybe mashed taters and left over french bread

My MIL is making the traditional pork and sauerkraut dinner today. I've never heard of putting a coin in black eyed peas - interesting!

Considering from 6:00pm 12-31-03 to 6:00am 1-1-04 I slept with a bucket, no not a hangover, a nasty virus.

It's tea and crackers for me.

The 3 1/2 hour "Return of the King" and a jumbo popcorn put the finishing touches on me.

Ughhhh I haven't the energy to make anything but I think I'll be back eating more chicken soup to try to get rid of this nasty cold....sniffffffffff!:(

Mamu I hope you're feeling your old self real soon......this sucks being sick!::yes::

We're not making anything special, but my mother used to make pork and sauerkraut every year for "good luck." Yuck! The pork was always greasy and fatty, and there was (and is) no way, I'm eating sauerkraut. If this was such a great meal, I always wondered why we never had it during the rest of the year. Personally, I think a nice lobster dinner might bring me good luck.

I work today, 3:30-10, so I'll be cooking: Big Macs, QPCs, and Cheeseburgers. :p

Usually have the pork/saurkraut/mashed potato dinner, but this year the inlaws are coming over, and we are having Chinese food. No cooking for me tody:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Turkey dinner with all the fixins YUM! (Especially cause DH does all the cooking.) Happy 2004!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/8/8_6_7.gif' border=0></a>

Making a pork roast, it was my hungarian grandmothers tradition to have poultry on Christmas as when a chicken or turkey eats it scratches the food back - pushing the year behind, and pork on new years - when a pig eats it pushes its food forward, pushing the luck ahead for the new year. So we still continue those traditions. If we are out on New Years day I will make the pork roast on the 2nd.
