What are unused points worth?

Never sold unused points before. Wondering what the going rate is and how is it determined?

There are a lot of factors in play, including home resort, use year, status of points ( reservaton stutus, holding status, etc.) number of points...are your renting the points (making a reservation for a non-Member) or transferring them to another member's account.

We've seen prices anywhere from $6 for distressed last minute points, to about $13+ for BWV/BCV ponts during the 11 month priority booking window.

Either way, the price is fully negotiable between you and the other party. DVC and the DIS will not become involved in what is basically a private transaction between two individuals.

Be sure to read the sticky thread with the posting rules on our rent/trade board. Or you may wish to contact the Rent/Trade board sponsor ( David's Vacation Club Rentals ), who may be able to broker out your points for you, basically finding the renter for you.

I looked into renting my unused points today. David's site mentioned above will pay you $10 a point for any that they are able to find a renter for (they charge $13 to the renter). If the points are within 5 months of expiring, they suggest you offer them at a discounted price, and you would get anywhere from $3-6 for each point that actually finds a renter.

Obviously if you can do it yourself without going through a broker, you could potentially get more.

I personally would rather offer the points to a friend or family member for free (or donate them to charity) before I'd let someone rent them for $3-6 per point. The key is not advertising that they are distressed. If you do that, you'll have a lot of people waiting in the wings to try and rent them for an amount even lower than you expected. How your rental ad is worded can make a huge difference. :thumbsup2

I hope I was clear that I wasn't suggesting anyone rent their points for $3-6. This website that was mentioned does suggest doing it if you are using their service. And also to be clear, renters of those points are going to pay $6-9, since the website takes a $3 per point cut on every deal they broker.

Like I said, doing it without a broker can get you more money. But you might not reach as many people with your own ad as the broker can with his website.
