Does anyone have any recommendations/"stay away from"s from the following list of foods? I have no idea what they are. I could make a meal out of their butternut squash soup and zebra domes, but it would be nice to try some of the other offerings, too.
Kool Slaii
Watermelon rind salad
Moroccoan seafood salad
spinach and quinoi salad
chicken pepper pot
curried coconut seafood stew
coconut curry cauliflower
fufu
potatoes with afritude
jollof rice
pap and sheeba
bobotie
banana wrap salmon
banana curried salmon

Also, do they have descriptions of the items at the buffet?

Don't be afraid of Pap. And any type of soups or stews they have are so tasty yummy! popcorn::

Hi there!
Check out this page www.allearsnet.com/din/rec.htm
PM me for the link if it gets deleted... that happens sometimes. :)

This is a link to recipes of foods in WDW, first place listed is Animal Kingdom Lodge, and all the Boma recipes have (Boma) at the end of the title. I bet you will find most of what you are looking for there, and by reading the ingredients you can get a pretty good idea of what something will taste like.
HTH!

My husband's idea of a great meal is steak and a plain baked potato (no salt, pepper or butter). He took me to Boma a few years ago because I love eating different foods, even though he thought his choices would be limited. He was shocked at how enjoyable every item on his plate was. Its all the same food you would find anywhere else, just with different sauces and spices. You won't be sorry to try anything.

FUFU is a potato dish. It is made from regular and sweet potatoes. They are mashed together and seasoned, it is very good!

If you have the chance, take the free Culinary Tour at AKL (around 4pm daily). You will tour Jiko & Boma, and get free appetizers! The chef at Boma explained every single food that was going out on the buffet for the night which really helped me decide for myself, and help the kids (AND meat & potatoes DH) choose what they wanted to eat. We LOVED Boma, it was my favorite meal in all my trips to WDW.

We ate at Boma, and I can't tell you specifics about many of the dishes, but I can tell you that the food was really good. The good news is that even if you don't like something, push it aside and go back up to the buffet for something else (or just go for the dessert - lots of good stuff there, also.)

Curried coconut seafood stew was my fav when we went! If you are familiar with curry, it was like the kind of curry that ends up looking yellow and has coconut milk in it, this was the base of the "broth" for the stew, which is very souplike?, I am not sure what qualifies a dish for stew versus soup...anyway, the seafood was a bit of everything, from mussels still in the shell to shrimp, and more, I don't remember what all...it was very good...if you like curry, definitely try it...enjoy!

DW and DDs are very picky/meat & potatoes people, I am an adventure eater.
We all LOVE Boma. It is probably our favorite place in dozens of WDW trips.
The soups are so good, the weird sounding dishes really aren't all that weird, and they have some pretty basic stuff too--Chocolate chip cookies for instance. :earsboy:

The Watermelon Rind Salad is GROSS. Worst thing I ate last trip (besides the creme brulee at WPE that made me sick).

I didn't like it either.. it had an overwhelming bitter rind flavor.

This is a great suggestion.

The chefs are always very happy to answer questions about the food during the meal, too. That's one of the many nice things about Boma: the kitchen is right behind the serving area and the chefs are always nearby to answer questions and chat with you. They always seem to enthusiastic about their food and like to get feedback from the guests about it, too.

Pap is a corn meal porridge.

Traditionally its meant to be eaten with your index and middle finger.
Its rather tasty.

Also, bobotie is a lamb dish. I haven't had it at Boma, but I have had it in Namibia and it was tasty.

I have a couple of pics of various foods in my report....
PRIME RIB, CHICKEN, COUSCOUS (SP?), ROASTED VEGGIES, & UNIDENTIFIED TOMATO SOMETHING? (It was good)
