we just found out that our kids will be out of school all of Thanksgiving week. Of course there are no vacancies at the fort. What's the likelihood of anything opening up? Do they have a wait list? Do I just keep checking? We are tent campers.

Here is what I did for spring break this year with only a few months notice. Call WDW, tell them your dates and ask if there's any combination of dates for your week, even three days. Then in a few months, call again and ask if they can add days to it. It worked for me...dates opened up and we got five days together during one of the busiest times. Good luck! Bonus is you get to hear the CM tell you to have a magical day.

Call, call, call, check online also. As many times a day as you can. You may have to take a day here and there and piece it together. Or you may have to book a bigger window (days before and after) and than cancel the extra days. Also might want to have a plan B, just in case.

1) There is always a chance.
. . . very slim chance
. . . but, a chance
2) But, you need to wait for someone to cancel.
. . . Although infrequent, people do cancel for various circumstances
. . . This means checking 2-3 time per every day.
. . . No one knows what time, there might be a cancellation
. . . Cancellation and vacancies are entered into the system, and are available, immediately
3) Unfortunately, you have picked a VERY BUSY time at The Fort.
. . . Christmas Week is #1 busiest week
. . . Thanksgiving Week is #2 busiest week
. . . Halloween is #3 busiest week

WE have been fortunate to get the Fort twice for Thanksgiving. Our first trip to the Fort was in 2012. Checking in on Thanksgiving, staying the rest of that week and all of the following week and leaving on Saturday. Did a similar thing in 2014.

In 2012 we had to "Piece" our vacation together. When DW called to make the reservations we ended up with a few days short of what we wanted. (I think on the "Thanksgiving" side of the time frame) but her persistence paid off. We eventually got the entire dates we wanted. We are quick learners, so when it came to 2014, DW had reservations about a year in advance.
