What are the odds of getting into a resort that is not your home resort at the 7 month "deadline"?

We just bought points at SSR, but for next summer I would love to do a split stay at SSR and OKW - how hard will it be to get into OKW in early September? How do we go about doing that - do we book two reservations at SSR at 11 months out, then change one to OKW if that is possible or do I need to make a NEW reservation for OKW?

Too many questions from this newcomer. Thanks for your help in advance! :goodvibes

I really don't see that being a problem. You can book your full reservation at SSR at 11 months out then when the 7 month booking window opens up you can modify your reservation to a shorter length at SSR and get make a new reservation at OKW.

You will have ZERO/ZILCH problems booking OKW for next Sept at the 7 month mark. For that matter, there is very little you would not be able to book. Sept is a great time to go, low points and low crowds. With the exception of probably AKV Concierge, most of the BWV boardwalk views and probably most of the studios at BCV, you could pretty much get whatever you want.

Just to be safe of course book at 11 months at SSR, but don't fret about 7 months availability at that time of year.

Just as an example, we are SSR owners and leave next Friday for 5 days at BWV in a 2bd villa. While it isn't Boardwalk View, it was no problem getting the reservation. Like others have recommended, book your home resort at 11 months to assure your accommodations and then call at the 7 month mark to switch to whatever you like. Odds are fairly good you'll find plenty to choose from.

Thank you all so much for your replies.

Not being able to look for availabilty was freaking me out! We only became members a short time ago and this is all so new too us. I am usually booked more than a year in advance, so NOT having a reservation anywhere and waiting until the 7 month mark didn't seem the right way to go!

I will definitely book at 11 months out and just try to change to OKW for the last part of the trip.

Thank you all so much! :goodvibes

Just to add support to those answers, I just booked a 1 BR @ OKW at 7 months - for the week before Easter - one of the busiest weeks of the year - no problem at all.

Thank you for setting my mind at ease! :cloud9:
We just LOVE OKW and so far have always "paid out of pocket". It would be wonderful if we could use our points for it! :thumbsup2

Like others have said, you should be able to switch resorts at the 7 month mark. I have gotten BCV (stuido's and 2BRs) at the 7 month mark, which many say are hard to get. September is a GREAT time to go to WDW. Have fun!

Just make sure that you don't use borrowed points for the SSR reservation at 11 months if you plan on switching to OKW at 7 months. Your OKW reservation will almost certainly be less points for an identical room than SSR, but any borrowed points from the SSR ressie will have to be used in the same use year.

This made more sense in my head than reading it now. Veteran DVC'ers, did I explain this properly?

Welcome Home! There are only a few resorts that will be difficult to reserve during the 7 month window and IMO they are GVC and BLT. GVC being the amount of Villas available: 48 and BLT being new in FL. The other properties are relatively easier and Sept-mid Nov are excellent times to book if you can.

That is good to hear! BLT is our home, so I will be booking it for next Oct, but at 7 months I am hoping to book a 1 br at Kidani. We are fairly new as well, and hopefully after our upcoming trip on points, it will be a bit more familiar!

I do appreciate the info here, as well as the great help we get with MS!
