We're looking at the possibility of a large group going to WDW later next year or in early 2013. It would include 6 adults and 4 children (no infants). I looked at the studios, 1 and 2 bedroom villas but then noticed the Grand Suites. :lovestruc

We're not DVC members but looking at a popular points rental website it looks like a Grand Villa would be about the same number of points as 1 studio and 2 1 bedroom villas and just slightly more than a 2 bedroom and 2 studios. Being that we're not DVC members is there any chance at all of getting one of these if we call the first day we can reserve one?

Our top preferences would probably be:
Bay Lake Towers
Boardwalk

If you set it up to rent points from a DVC member who owns at the resort you're wanting to book prior to the 11-month mark (so they can call right at 11 months) then it's very possible. This might also work for a rental company...I've never dealt with a set up like that so I don't know for sure how they do things. Best bet would be to contact them and ask prior to the 11 month mark.

You don't have to be a DVC member to book a grand villa. Although I have heard actually finding one available is difficult because DVC members can book their trips so far in advance and most often do!

Just happened to see this...we're staying in a BLT grand villa next week, and only booked it about a month ago...so there's hope!

We rented points...for our grand villa vaca this March....loved it so much we ended up buying a resale contract. Renting is twice as cheap as paying full price to Disney. If you are uncertain, rent from either sponsors on these sites, instead of an individual. We rented from a wonderful person, but paying in advance a huge sum of money was a leap of faith. We rented at the 11th month mark to ensure we got our dates and resort.

You'll never get a BWV Grand Villa for cash. There are only eight of them (maybe only seven) and they go very quickly. BLT has a few more, but they also go quickly. You'll need to rent from a DVC member and book it exactly at 11 months out.

But if you rent from a DVC member and you need to change your dates, or some of the family change their mind and don't plan to go, you are pretty much stuck with the reservation you have. And if you cancel, most members will not give you a refund of what you have already paid.

Never say never but a GV at these 2 resorts is unrealistic. Odds are greatest at OKW and SSR and the points are less. In general, a 3 BR will be about the same as a 2 BR plus 2 studios. Put another way, the same sleeping capacity with a studio plus a 2BR will be around 25-30% less than a 3 BR depending on the resort and season.

I don't know what dates you're looking at, but if you are thinking of January 2013 the grand villas at OKW might even be difficult to get because of the marathon weekend leaving you with the most realistic place to stay of SSR (a wonderful resort by the way, don't rule it out).
