What are the differences between DVC and regular resort starys?

Hello! We will be renting points and staying at DVC for the first time this December and I was wondering , aside from the daily maid service, what the major differences are if you stay as a DVC member (renting points) rather than as a regular resort guest?

I read that at BWV (where we will be staying) you have to pay for extras like additional pillows or blankets and stuff, but what else?

Specifically:

Does housekeeping not come at all? We will be there five nights.

Can you charge to the room/ leave a credit card for incidentals?

Can you add hoppers to your room key like a regular stay?

How is check in? Do you check in at the regular desk or at the DVC counter?

Is there express check out?

What are the other big differences we can expect? We like to know as much as possible before going!

Thanks so much for your help!

You do not have to pay for additional blankets or pillows. You do pay $6 for each additional set of complete towels.

Housekeeping will come once on your fourth day and remove your trash and replace your towels. You can pay daily for regular maid service if you choose.

You check in like normal, you can leave a credit card for room key charges just like at a non-dvc resort, you can add hoppers to your room key and there is express check out.

You don't mention what type of room you have. A studio will have a mini fridge and a microwave. Anything bigger will have a full kitchen and a washer and dryer.

Thank you so much! We will be in a studio. I'm not to worried about the housekeeping thing. Once on the fourth day is great, we prefer to not have people in our room every day anyway. Glad to hear we can charge to the room and have hoppers added to our keys. Don't expect to need extra towels and stuff, I guess we can just bring a couple of large beach type towels along too and wash them along with some laundry (we like to pack light!)

It all sounds pretty easy, just like checking in regularly! Is there anything else we should know about/be prepared for? Thanks again!

You know how you spend the morning doing something and come back to your room about 1 or 2? And the room is still a mess, the beds not made, towels on the floor and you were really looking forward to taking a nap? Well, you can do that with DVC. You tidy up your own room (your home away from home) unless you are there for 8 days or more. And don't have to worry about housekeeping bothering you. And if you want to vacuum up the sand that followed you home from the water park, you have a vacuum in the closet to do just that. It's really great.

You can also ask housekeeping to move your T & T day up to be in the middle of your visit.

My wife and I also have rented points for the first time and also will be at BWV during Dec. for five days in a studio. If we choose more maid service than just the T&T at mid week, how much does it cost? Will we have to elect to get it for the whole time or could we just get it every other day?

Mike

Believe me, you really won't miss not having daily maid service. Just pull up the covers on the bed, hang up the towels and put your trash in the garbage can. It is soooooo easy to stay in DVC without the daily maid service.

In February we paid $10.00 extra per day for daily trash and towel service for our 2BR at the BWV. It was nice because we didn't have to clean our own towels, get rid of our own garbage and we got re-fills on the coffee for the coffee maker each morning. Small price to pay for the convenience.

One other potential benefit. Regardless of mine or anyone elses feelings, renters are usually extended the same benefits as members even though technically they are not supposed to be. If your room key says "member", you will get the benefits and a list of discounts at checkin. good luck.

You can purchase full daily maid service for any one or more days at the resort -- just tell them you want it at check in. It is $25/$30/$40 per day for a studio/1BR/2BR. Other than daily maid service, the process -- what you can do, how you check in, getting credit privileges, park tickets, etc. -- is exactly the same as being a hotel guest at WDW.

on the first floor are washer and dryer that are free - so bring your own detergent and softener.

OK, now one of you said you paid $10 for daily maid service at WL and another said it was $25 for a studio. Is the $25 for the Boardwalk? Do they have different rates for different resorts? I would be willing to pay $10 a day for fresh towels, empty the trash, fresh coffee, etc., but $25 is beginning to be a little steep.

Mike

Another difference: you have to put down a $12,000 deposit.

Oh that's right, you said you were renting. Never mind!

I think the $25 is for a full scale cleaning, $10 is for trash & tidy.

Actually I'd have a hard time paying $10 for trash & tidy daily unless I am planning on entertaining. I'd rather bring my favorite coffee and ask for an extra set or two of towels. Mebbe schedule in an extra T&T if I'm there a week.
