What are the crowds like Thanksgiving week?

We are considering heading west for Thanksgiving this year (the kids are off the whole week). Anyone know what the crowds would be like early in the week?

I believe crowds get worse as the week goes on...they start off moderate, but get more crowded each day.

That is what I experienced in 2005. I don't remember which day was our last day--either Tuesday or Wednesday--but by then I was almost glad to be leaving, as things were getting really busy. (But I also wasn't doing the afternoon nap/break strategy then, either.)

Do California schools have off that week? If so, then the crowds may be substantially bigger with the discount APs that aren't blacked out from the Sunday-Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day.
