What are the crowds like for last week in August?

Hi. When we went to Disneyland during the last week in August a couple of years back, the local kids were already back to school, thus lightening the crowds and lineups.

Is this true for Orlando schools?

Just bumping it up. We are going during the last 2 weeks of Aug so I am interested in hearing about crowd levels too. We went in July last summer, so I have to believe I will think that the crowds are light regardless. :)

For the last several years, I've gone the last week in August (as a teacher, I was trying to skip the hordes, and yet still take advantage of school vacation).
I never had a problem with too many crowds (of course, I always arrived at opening), and always had a great time. It was hot, but not too bad. It would rain just about every day, but only for 30 minutes or so.
Once, however, I did get stuck because of a hurricane (3 extra days at the hotel--my park hopper had expired. There was a 24 hour period when we were warned not to leave the hotel room--if the cable had gone out, I might not be around today).
So, my advice: go. It's a great time, with manageable crowds. But buy travel insurance.

Me too!!! HOneymooning from Aug 23-30!! (then hopping a cruise to St.Thomas...I hope it isn't hurricane-ing then!!!) Glad to hear that crowds aren't bad!! :yay:

NO..don't do it!!! Tell everyone you know that it is the worst time to go too hot and too crowded... ;) :rolleyes1
No really its a great time to go!!!

We are going from August 22-29. Friends went that time last year and said crowds were do-able. And can we please refrain from using the "H" word when talking about the last week in August. ;)

Every trip I've made to WDW has been during the last week of August except for the first. It is a great time to go. All of the Florida kids are back in school (I still have a week untill I go back :teeth: ). Sure it rains every day, but those don't last very long.

Going to WDW at the End of August:

Pros:
Many kids have gone back to school so parks aren't that crowded
Disney offers free dining plan

Cons:
It rains a bit almost every afternoon
Possibly hurricane season
It's hot

Haha! Great idea!

We are going from August 22-29 and I have heard that its not too crouded. Back in 2001 and 2003 at Disney and last year at Universal we went at this time and its never too packed. Crouds are very managable. But because of the free dining plan, it could be a whole lot more crouded. My advice, go but make your ADR's now! Have fun!!! :cool1:
