of going from running 1.5 miles to running the 1/2 marathon next March???

After losing quite a bit of weight a few years ago (about 50 lbs) I am now focusing more on toning up and getting into better shape through exercise. I had been walking (usually on my treadmill, since I'm a single mom of 2 young 'uns and don't have much time to get outside to exercise on my own) and recently starting running a bit. I currently do a total of 2 - 3 mile sin a typical workout, but can only run between 1 and 1 1/2 miles, then walk.

I saw the announcement of the princess 1/2 marathon next March, and am contemplating a solo trip to run in it. Am I crazy to think I can get in good enough shape in that time???

You can totally do it!!! You've got plenty of time to train. Check out some of the online training plans or John Bingham's books from the library or amazon.com. Maratoning for Mortals has a few training plans for a 1/2 Marathon and Full.

The chances are great!

I never ran at all before January and I ran the Minnie 15 k in May and have signed up for the half in January. Just find a good, sensible plan--there are lots, including Bingham's Marathoning for Mortals. There are run plans and run/walk plans. I know you can do it.

Like the others have said your chances are good. Its great motivation to get out there as well.

Before the Minnie 15k my furthest distance ever was the TOT 13k (8.1 miles) and I signed up for the full :scared1: marathon in January. I was able to do the 15k in decent time that I was happy with and didn't feel bad afterwards.

There is plenty of time to get trained up to do a 1/2 marathon by March. This is the right group to stick with and I will second their recommendations for information. Join our weekly threads and you will be running that 1/2 in no time!!

I got motivated to run this past January and a 10k at the end of March was my motivation. I did it and finished the Country Music 1/2 Marathon at the end of April. It is completely and totally possible! Go For It....and go strong!!!!!

I have to chime in here....ding....
I agree with what everyone said. I trained to walk a half marathon in about 4 1/2 months. I think you have plenty of time. Look around and fina a plan that sound good to you and works with your schedule. I would try to get out on the pavement a few times, because the feeling is kinda different than the TM and the Disney stuff will either be on asphalt or concrete. Good luck to you and just remember to "Have fun" doing it.!!!

YOU CAN DOOITT!!

Thanks for all the encouragement, everyone! I think I am going to give it a shot!

I do try to get out and run on the pavement when I can...it's just that with two young kids at home, my opportunities are limited - basically one night a week and every other weekend I can run outside - the rest of the time I'm stuck with the treadmill. I actually prefer to run outside - the treadmill gets boring at times, even in front of the TV!!!

I went from a 190+ couch jockey to finish a half in 3:10 in nine months. My boyfriend got this crazy idea of doing the WDW half, and I signed on with him and his entire family. All of us, in various states of fitness pulled it together and got across the finish line.

I, personally, have set a goal of doing a half under 3 hours. We're signed on to do the next WDW half, so I'll get to try again. So watch out, this whole racing thing is addictive.

You can do it!

I trained exclusively for the Minnie 15k last year on the TM. I started in January and ran it just fine in March. Not only did I never make it outside for runs, I had to have help putting my water bottles on my belt at the start! It wasn't the prettiest of runs, but it was my first long race and an absolutely amazing feeling to finish. I went on to do the Goofy, but that first 15k will always be special to me.

Just stay on the boards and keep posting. If there's one thing I tell everyone, it's that I could not have done it without WISH.

Good luck!

Oooooh Yes! You CAN do this. :cheer2: :cheer2:

Side note: you don't have to run it all. Many will work in walkig and running.

Stick with the WISH Team and you will so enjoy your journey. Join in the fun on the weely thread.

One more newbie here to tell say You Can Do It!
I went from a 5k in Jan to the Minnie 15K last week and am doing the 1/2 in Jan. Just find a plan that works for you and join in the fun here.

Just wanted to say thanks again for all the encouragement - I registered online this morning!
