DBF and I booked Caribbean Beach Resort, with visa code because they were completely booked at POR/POFQ. The castmember was very helpful and told us to try calling back to check if there is an opening and switch. Well I called yesterday and the castmember I spoke with told me to keep trying but my best luck would be 7 days before hand, because that was the time guest with room only ressie could canceling with out penalty. So I was wondering has anyone else had luck with kind of situation or should I just forgot POR and enjoy CBR?

hey if you want POR kept trying!

although from CBR you can see the higher fireworks at Epcot. (Pop too)

it is much harder to see from POR - further away and more trees.

Remember... changing a reservation within the 45 day window causes penalty fees. I believe it is $50. But if you are set on staying at POR then the penalty fee shouldn't matter.

Maybe some one else can confirm or deny this but I thought they set aside a certain amount of package discounts and once they are gone, that's it. I also thought canceled packages went back into the main room pool and not back to its discount pool, so a canceled room only ressie would definitely not be available as part of a package discount under normal circumstances.

Or, perhaps I am misunderstanding and you are willing to pay rack rate for a POR/POFQ package?

well I asked the cast member yesterday if there would be any penalty for waiting until the 7 days before and switching, he said no because "its apples for apples" there would be a fee if it was "apples for oranges" (from a mod to a deluxe). They said it would be fine because it would cost exactly the same. I am really set on POR because this is a romantic trip (carriage and boat rides), I feel that POR is more romantic than CRB. Has anyone ever had luck with a switch like this? If not, what are some romantic things to do at CRB? thanks :)

I had somewhat of a similar situation with our trip this past June. I had booked YC with a AAA discount originally then 3 weeks before our trip AP rates came out but YC was not available for my dates so I switched to BC. I really did not want BC but the CM said to keep trying. Well, I checked the passholder reservation site every day and then 6 days before our trip the YC was available. I was able to change with no problem whatsoever.:yay: So I say that if POR is what you really want keep trying.:thumbsup2

Just a thought, did you book on the day or two when the Visa Code came out? I know lots of people put their reservations on hold and have two weeks until they have to pay the deposit and be sure of their reservation. I know when I got the PIN code for 40% off earlier in the year I had a few different reservations on "hold" (they were different dates). So I am wondering if you will have luck to keep trying over the next few weeks because most likely people are cancelling.

I would guess that as people cancel any available room would go back inot the discount pool. Seems to me lots of people can't book a resort and then viola it seems to pop up a few days later.

Good luck and keep trying. POR is a Romantic resort. You did of course try French Quarter too, right?

How funny - we are going Oct 17-22 - have reservations at POR and my daughter wants badly to switch to CBR

wanna switch? :goodvibes

I hope some people are just holding the rooms so I will try a week and a half from now, I did try for either side which I will continue to do as long as it is Port Orleans. My DBF thinks it is funny because we live in the South, why would I want to stay at a hotel that is themed that way. He was like you can see old southern manison if you drive in the country :rotfl2: I really love the idea of the carriage ride and boat to DTD.
I would love to switch but we Nov 4 - Nov 9 :(

That is the policy for a package.

The policy for room only bookings is different and you can cancel 6 days out without penalty.
