No sure I'm asking the question properly as we don't actually have them yet, but I 'think' the DS Lite and DSXL I got my kids for Xmas are sort of compatible with eachother.

What games can they play eachother with (cartridge goes in one DS but they can play eachother?) And what games are best for the XL online stuff?

Thanks! BTW they are 8 and 10 and my son (10) doesn't like bakugan-type stuff, mostly sports & shoot 'em games.

My kids (and husband) play Pokemon together on their DS's. One thing, as far as I know, BOTH players need the game, not one. I know we've bought two copies of many many games (KIngdom Hearts, Final Fantasy and Pokemon) because of this.

I haven't figured out how to do it, but the dude at GameStop assured me that for games like MarioKart and many many others, you only need one cartridge. If you turn off either DS, you lose the game in progress and would have to "re-send" the game, but as long as both DS's are on, you can play.

On the back of the games, there's a little icon which shows if it can be played by two. I'd say the Mario games would be perfect for sharing.

Mario kart! And yes, only one cartridge is needed. My son has played with 4 kids (all had their own ds) with one cartridge.

We have 5 ds's & we have all played Mario Kart (2 are old ones that don't fully function on their own anymore).

My kids also play Super Mario Bros together but we have 2 games. Both need to be in the ds.

They have also played Nintendogs but again, they each need a game.

I think they were able to download Brain Age as well.

Plus all 3 of them like to go to DS download, especially when they are supposed to be sleeping!!!

Thanks. So in other words, some games can be shared with only one cartridge, and some games we'd need to have 2 of the same game for them to play eachother (not happening). Other than Mariokart - any other good ones that only need one game?

How do you share with one cartridge? We have Mario kart, but the kids don't know how to play together?

Picto Image! It's playing pictionary, with added twists. It's so much fun and support a whole lot of DS's playing together. The more the merrier!

Some Kirbys also have multiplayer games, you can ask the store clerk.

Actually, the best people to ask are the people that work in a game store! They're very knowledgeable and will be able to find just the right games for you.

The person that has the game choose multiplayer when you first get into the game. It leads you to a page that has "create group" at the bottom. Click on that. To include players that don't have the game in their ds, choose "simple".

For the other players, when you first turn your DS on, choose "DS download play". The Mario kart of the first player should pop up, you choose to join their group. Then you wait as you are all connected. You might have to wait until the game pops up on your screen too. Some time it takes a while for this "download" to happen.

On the first player's screen, all the names of the players that want to play should show up. Then you guys can start the game and the first player chooses how the game will be played and everyone else will get to choose their characters.

Thank you! I'm surprising my 2 older kids with DSs and 2 games each-one of them is Mario Kart. I knew they could play together, but had no idea how!

If they BOTH have the game, then the first player chooses the "normal" instead of "simple" to play together

I actually had my DS on and went through the steps while typing it out.

I'm a pretty avid DS gamer so this was something very simple that I think more people should know how to do.

I'm actually very surprised at how many people don't know how to share a one cartridge game amoungst a group with DS's!

Just one Mario Kart! They are each getting 2 different games-Mario Kart and a pet game for her, a Star Wars game and Phineas and Ferb for him. Then I thought they could share. I had read that they could both play on the one Mario Cart game, but had no idea how to do it!
