What rides and/or shows are MUST SEES for a 6 year old girl? Or are there any rides that might be too frightening for her? She's not easily scared...but she's still quite young and I don't want to accidentally frighten her by putting her on rides that aren't appropriate for her age group. Any recommendations would be appreciated. :)

When we took our 6 year old granddaughter (5 at the time) to WDW last year, she loved loved loved Splash Mountain. We had to keep getting Fast Passes to get back on. Must have taken her on that a half dozen times each day we were in MK. I can still see her in my mind's eye, groovin' to Zip-a-dee-do-dah. Brings a smile to my face just thinking about it.

My daughter is 7 now but her favorites are still the same as when she was 4 -- Splash Mountain and Thunder Mountain. She did NOT like TOT and I can't get her on Space Mountain.

There are alot of factors that go into this: how old the child is, who they are with, are they hungry, tired... What my DD thought was scary when she was 3 may not be the same now that she's 5 and visa versa. I think it's best to start small then progress up the bigger coaster/scarier scale. If they get scared, don't make a big deal of it, just move on to something different like a show or a character greet to distract their attention.

I didn't take my own advice on our trip, however and it worked out fine, so you never know. My DD's first ride was POTC at age 3. We were with some Disney veterans with kids ages 3 and 4, and that's the ride they wanted to start with. She wasn't quite sure what she was getting herself into, but when she saw how the other kids reacted she was fine. She might be more scared this time as she won't have the peer pressure aspect :goodvibes, but I'm going to let her know that it's her job to help her little brother get excited about the rides...

Our 6yo DD was not crazy about the scary rides. I honestly thought she'd be fine on everything but Space Mountain & Indiana Jones this year, but after going on the rides, I realized there were some that were a LOT scarier than I remembered them being!

She rode Splash Mountain, but didn't like it and didn't want to go on it again. I thought "oh its just one big drop and its over in 5 seconds, she'll be fine". But I had forgotten about the two dips and the dark part that are before the HUGE drop. She was not happy about that and was crying by the time we got off! :P I felt so bad!

After that we were a little more cautious about what we took her on. She went on Thunder Mountain, as again, I didn't remember it being very scary...but it is a LOT faster than you think and she didn't want to go on it again after that.

She didn't want to go on the Matterhorn just by looking at it (and after riding it myself, I'm glad we didn't make her, its scarier than I remembered it being, too! Its almost all in darkness and super fast.)

She did go on The Haunted Mansion, but it was the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay so it wasn't as scary in my opinion. She enjoyed that one a lot! I wouldn't have taken her on it if it had been the normal version though.

She liked POTC, although she was a little jumpy during some parts. She rode it three times though!

Other than that she went on everything else and enjoyed them.

A must see for a 6yo girl is DEFINITELY the Princess Fantasy Faire. Its about an hour wait, but worth it in my opinion. Get there early one morning (like before 10am) and you won't have to wait as long. You get to have a meet n greet and pictures w/ 3 different princesses (they switch them every 30 minutes or so). They also have a beauty parlour where you can get their hair done for about $40 or face painting/makeup for about $10. (We did the face painting, but honestly, I think it would be worth getting her hair done if its in the budget. I saw a few little girls during our stay and their style lasted 2-3 days.) If you do it, do it before standing in line so its in her pictures w/ the princesses. Then after you meet the princesses there is a princess show down in the auditorium where a princess teaches you to dance and curtsy, etc, DIY crowns, and also story telling by a princess every hour or so. All of that is free! Its nice b/c its all in the shade, there is a lot of seating and you dont have to go anywhere, just chill and watch her have fun. There's also a bathroom and food stand right there, so you can buy lunch, too. You can easily spend 3 hours over there one morning and have lots to see and do.

Unfortunately, there isn't any storytelling, or make your own crown any longer. These things have been discontinued.

The only storytelling that I know of right now is at the Grand Californian Hotel that I posted about last month. It is a Native American or park ranger telling stories and other activities like singing. The Brother Bear ceremony thingy at
the Redwoods is really more of a play and not storytelling like there used to be at that spot.

It would have been nice if they moved the storytelling over to PPF and had some fun activities for the kids.

Great question oilergirl. My DW and I are planning on taking our 2 DD's to DL for the first time in Sept. are oldest will be 6 and youngest will be 1. I have been showing my oldest videos of rides on you tube. I know it's not the same as being there, but it gives her an idea of what the ride is. So far she wants to go on HM, POTC, Peter Pan, Small World and even The Matterhorn, but we'll see what happens when we get there.

That seems like a stupid thing to get rid of....IW as really looking forward to my girls seeing that.
Yes, a lot of people are disappointed. The rest of the things at the Princess Fantasy Faire are still there, but they got rid of all the free things. I don't have any girls, so it didn't affect me personally, but I think it's sad that those things aren't available to everyone anymore.

I wanted to clarify my above post.....LOL. It's not that little boys can't enjoy the PFF too, it's just that my DS is 13, so for us, it isn't something that we'd do. I can't even get him to take a picture of a princess or get anywhere near one....it's just not cool.....LOL.

What rides and/or shows are MUST SEES for a 6 year old girl?

At DL, one word...It's a Small World.

I had been on it so many times that I was *sick* of it...however, with the recent refurbishment, it's really cool for everyone again...especially when you make a game of trying to find the (newly added) Disney characters.

At CA, there is the Toy Story Midway Mania, the Brother Bear "play area" (rope bridges, things to climb, things to crawl through, things to swing from, etc., always good to use up energy), and the entire Bug's Life area (entire area dedicated to BL-themed rides for young kids).

Also, my 7 year old twin girls always go ga-ga over "Soarin' over California" at CA.

I've read that the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail has a hight restriction of 42". Do you have to be that tall to go in at all, or are you just restricted from specific challenge elements? My 5 yr old is tall enought, but I'd love my 3 yr old (39") to at least see the Magic of Brother Bear show.

I'm in the same boat. My 6 year old can do the creek challenge Trail but I'm wondering if my soon to be 3 year old can see the Magic of Brother Bear Show.

The entire area is open to all guests.
Exceptions are things like the Challenge Trail, rope swing, and rock wall climb. The 3 year old probably will love the Brother Bear Show. I am pretty sure I have seen toddlers in the Redwood Creek area. Memory is on strike until fed, lol.

Well, my 6 yo daughter (who can be a wee bit scardey-cat at times) really surprised me at Disneyland last month. She loved:

Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, Thunder Mountain (she rode these rides twice as my wife and I had to swap waiting with our 3 yo), Star Tours, Alice's Tea Cups, Roger Rabbit ...

She was scared and hated Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, Toad' Ride ...

The usual favourites included Princess Fantasy Faire, Tinkerbell, It's a Small World, Buzz, Autopia, Nemo ...

My daughter is tall for her age and she has been able to ride pretty much everything (except Indiana Jones, California Screamin and Grizzly River Run since she was 3 1/2) She loves I mean loves rollercoasters. She waited and waited to be tall enough to ride California Screamin' and at 5 years and 7 months she was able to a loves it. That is her most favorite ride. Space mountain was for awhile but oh no longer!

And my son was able to ride Matterhorn and Goofys coaster last year and loved them both, he was 2 years and 9 months.

So I would say it really depends on the child and the person riding with her. Take he on the matterhorn. If she likes it try some bigger rides like Space or BTMRR.
