What are rack rates?

I've heard the term being tossed around here, but I don't quite understand what they are.

Rack rates are the rates for resort rooms prior to any type of discount. If you pay rack rate you are paying the full price posted for each room and room type based on season and the resort chosen.

They are listed on the Disney World site.
 
OK, that's what I thought. It sounds like experienced DIS'ers think only suckers pay rack rates. How do you guys get the discounts?
 
discounts are few and far between these days, but there are a few around.

florida discounts if you leave in florida
AAA discounts

if you keep a eye out on www.mousesavers.com
sometimes there will be discounts to the public

And don't forget AP discounts! It only takes one AP to make the reservation, for the discount to cover the whole reservation.
