Hello-
On a spur-of-the-moment whim, I called Tuesday and booked a mid. December trip (POFQ and free dining....I couldn't help myself!!!). I even did it without talking it over with DH!

Anyway, my thinking was that it will be a nice getaway from the commercialism, the economy, all the wildness...you know. And it will be a nice gift for us, since none of us need much in the way of gifts this year.

The kids would miss school, but I don't think they do a whole lot the week before break. They are too excited to learn. They would be missing class parties, but there are a ton of opportunities for other Christmas parties between now and then.

I am a SAHM, so my decorating and shopping will be done by then.
Am I forgetting something important I need to be home for? I know that sounds stupid, but you know how the holidays get.....I feel like I am missing a major "thing" that I am overlooking.

Who has gone then? Was it crazy being gone at that time of year?

I'm interested in reading this thread also as we have a trip planned for Dec 12-17th. My son will miss his preschool sing-along at the local nursing home and that's about it. I know there are things the day after we get back, but we'll see how tired they are if they want to attend or not. The Christmas concert is really not a big deal to my dd6, but my son's preschool class has their Christmas party that same day and I'm sure he'll want to attend. Other than that, we will visit Santa beforehand and I will do all of my baking after we get back. My photography business should be pretty quiet as I should have all of my customer's orders completed by the end of Thanksgiving weekend.

I think this is a great time to visit...it really puts you into the spirit!! We made sure to have all gifts wrapped and getting Christmas cards ordered/mailed was tricky, other than that it was wonderful!!! WDW is very festive, and if your ducks are in a row at home, the trip really lets you enjoy the Christmas spirit at the parks. There are wonderful decorations and shows, you don't even need to attend MVMCP! We were even able to swim, which is a bonus if you are from the North!

However, be careful....you will be tempted to buy a ridiculus Christmas hat that will have you wondering what you were thinking when you got home!!

Oh, a con will be that when all is said and done and you are taking down your tree, you will wish you had a trip in Jan or Feb planned to help you get through the long, cold, long, long, long winter.

Its so cool to be at Disney for Christmas! To see all the neat decorations, and drink hot chocolate at the MVMCP or eat Gingerbread at the house at GF! The only downside I saw was I came home from my trip and felt like I wasn't in the Christmas spirit...like I needed to be in the frigid cold longer.

In 2007, DH and I went the first week of December, and it was amazing. The best time I've ever had at Disney. We barely waited in line for any rides.

However, I've also been during Christmas week, and that, was not quite so 'magical'.

From what I remember, they say the crowds start to build through the month of December, so it won't be as busy for you as it will be later in the month.

I definitely recommend the Osborne Lights. It's really pretty and it definitely puts you in the Christmas spirit.

I'm already in the Christmas Spirit. It's spitting snow up here tonight. I can't wait to hear some Christmas music and enjoy all the Christmas smells. We too are going in Dec. the 1st week to be exact. I hope I can get some Christmas shopping done while we are there. I hope the crowds won't be too bad either, and I hope the weather will be warm b/c its already cold here!!!! So Merry Christmas to you all!!!!!!

Only about 3 weeks to go for me! I love going this time of year - it does make the holidays seem like they go faster so if you have to get gifts for people, I suggest doing that before you go ... but you will have so much fun in WDW! I'm sure your kids will never forget it (nor will you)!

Mid December is without a doubt my favorite time to go. Make sure you see the Candlelight Processional at Epcot. It was beautiful and really focuses on the true meaning of Christmas. You do have to pack a little bit of everything in December since the weather can be unpredictable. I wish I was coming with you!

No cons! That is my favorite time to go!! I hear people say that it rains more in December but out of about 6 December trips rain was only an issue once.

Have fun!!!
