What are people wearing in the parks now?

I'm thinking about what to pack for our trip. I'm packing for San Francisco, Las Vegas, San Diego and Disneyland. It covers a lot of ground, but I don't want to overpack with all those extra baggage fees I'll get hit with! We're coming from Calgary and I'm having a hard time envisioning "warm" right now, or even what "warm" in LA is like this time of year.

What do folks wear for a day in the parks around Christmas time?

I think it depends on the weather. I am from Edmonton and we went to San Diego one November and we were able to wear shorts. My cousin (who if from here, but lives there) said that is not typical.

I have read on these boards to pack layers. You won't need a heavy jacket, like you would here, but maybe a fall jacket. Jeans and a sweater for the evening.

HTH, I'm looking forward to other answers as well. We leave in 8 days.

Hi--

For whatever reason we are having a warm 'snap' :lmao: right now. Today and tomorrow are going to be in the low 80s!!!

So when we go over to the Park later I suspect that people will be wearing shorts and shirts, no sweatshirts.

You don't say when your trip is going to be, but I am going to say, if it is going to be in the winter... pack layers, a rain jacket, and a coat of some kind (nothing too heavy, but it can get cold when the sun goes down).

Most importantly, keep checking the weather right up until the last minute, things can change--like today!!!

Thanks for the replies. We are coming December 21-25.

This may sound ridiculous, but no chance we'll need hats or mitts, right? My daughters are VERY cold aversive, which doesn't make them good Canadians, does it? :). I'm specifically thinking about the holiday tour and sitting down to watch the parade.

For the space mitts and hat would take up, I would probably just pack a small pair of magic gloves, better to have them than complaining kids!

I'd pack the hats and mitts. We've used them as it can get very cold once the sun goes down. Unfortunately, the weather can be all over the place. If you can wait to pack until maybe three days before you leave, you can get a pretty accurate weather report. I wouldn't bother packing rain gear as they sell ponchos in the park. But if rain is forcasted, you might want two pairs of shoes for everyone. You should be okay without winter coats, but again, depends on night time weather reports and how much time you're going to be out.

Packing is such a pain in the butt! Have a FABULOUS time.

I would not say shorts and tshirts. It's not BRRRRR, but it's not summertime. I would say jeans and tshirts during the day and a sweatshirt/jacket at night. Once the sun goes down, DL can be pretty cold. And I agree, pack the hat and mittens.

You mentioned San Fransisco and there it can get cold and windy. Hat and mittens would have been welcome when I went one October.

San Francisco is cold all the time. I wanted gloved in July, let alone Dec. Pack the mittens. Other than that, layers are your best bet for California. The temp drops at night, and there is a huge difference in temp during the day for the cities you are visiting.
Have a great trip!

Thank you all so much! I will pack the mitts and hats to be safe, and lots of layers.

Today at 6:00 pm it was short sleeve shirt weather. A few days ago, same time, it was in the 50s and dropping to 40s later (Fahrenheit, obviously). I check the weather forecast before I leave for work everyday, but coming from a distance, you need to pack clothes appropriate to anything in that range - and rain is possible, but it usually isn't cold rain so you can buy ponchos or just put up with being a bit wet.
