I tried "search"... after 5 minutes, it was still "searching" ;) so I thought I'd just ask.

We're from NYC and have never heard of them, unless we call them something else up here.

thanks to all for letting me know. As long as they don't bite I guess I can deal with the annoyance ;)

love bugs are annoying but harmless. they fly around everywhere & everything mating. They dont sting or bite-just really annoying. They are black bugs that look like they have 2 heads-obviously as they are mating...lol

When do you see love bugs? I want to say it's May and September but I can't remember. We saw them in September 2 years ago. Will we see them in October this year?

They almost look like fireflies - about the same size.

Last September, I saw them and when I really looked, there were quite a few around, but I don't think the rest of my family really even noticed them very much. Like if you looked in certian places you could see them, but really I think they are over hypes here on the DIS.

If they weren't mentioned here, you may well not even notice them. It's not like they bite or inavde teh rooms or anything. They are even pretty good about staying out of the way, IMO.

They are harmless but annoying...if you drive, make sure to wash your car ASAP b/c if you leave the little critters on your bumper, they will bake from the sun and they WILL eat the paint. Also, I've heard that they eat mosquitos.

Ugh, I'm from NY and now live inLouisiana.

Whoa...these things can SWARM! Harmless...but exceptionally annoying. They WILL get in your car off a stroller!! LOL!

Harmless though.
