Trying to post a non-controversial question........;)

My family is staying at WL Jan 22-24. We are planning on most of the 23rd being a "hotel day." What are some fun things to do and see at WL & FW? I have heard of pony rides & petting zoo at FW. WL has a tour, but I am guessing it would be boring for a 2 year old. Due to the weather I figure the beach is out. Is the playground at WL worthwhile? Does FW have a playground? Any other ideas?

Thanks!
Carolyn

FW has a free movie on the big screen- outdoors. It's always a Disney movie (surprise!!) they make it very fun- have a sing a long etc. I believe there is also a hayride- but you have to pay extra for that.... and...... you did a great job on this question- NO conroversy at All!!!!!

Carolyn,

You can also watch the Electric Water Pageant(sp) from either WL or FW. Not sure of the times in January, but you can ask at check-in. Also, the Hoop-di-Doo Revue Dinner show at FW, that you would need to book asap if you are interested in it.

FW has several playgrounds scattered throughout the resort. There is a nice one at the marina area. Just hop the boat to FW and look around! You can check out the petting zoo, tour the horse barn, ride the ponies, play, eat a good lunch at Trail's End and even shop a little!

I stayed at WL a year ago and when we checked in my wife and the couple we went with asked about being a flag family. You are taken up to the concierge floor where you take a series of stairs up to the roof. Once on the roof you can (atleast we did) take your time checing out the view, which is amazing, before you raise the 5 flags for the day. It was a great experience and a wonderful way to start off your day. Best of all it is free. Since it is such a great deal it s sometimes very difficult to get because it fills up so fast so ask as soon as you check in. Have fun. - Mike

In the WL, in the lobby, an animal trainer comes in every night with some kind of small animal or bird. This is ausually pretty interesting. Also if you ask someone on the gift shop, they will give you a list of all the hidden Mickeys located on the resort property. My kids really enjoyed looking all over the resort trying to find them all. Naturally there are bike rentals and water mice.

A must do at Ft. Wilderness for us is dinner at Trails End Buffet! We eat dinner here a couple of times each vacation.

They have "Duck Races" on Silver Spring Creek. All children pick a duck, the CM's toss all of them into a creek, and the first duck to get to the waterfall wins a prize.

There is storytelling by the fireplace in the Mercantile.

Every afternoon in the "Cubs Den" children can do crafts, color, etc. at "No Charge. Parents are invited to accompany their kids. There are few "freebies" at Disney, so this is a real treat!

Whispering Canyons...fun meals, and kids of "all ages" can ride "stick ponies".

The WL playground is on the beach. Kids can crawl and slide on the equipment, or just play in the sand.

Walk or bike ride the trail from WL to FW.

Have a great time!
