I keep seeing reference to this, and Im assuming its some kind of food?? Maybe a pastry or something?? We are staying at POFQ and everyone says they have these there and they are great!! So what is it?

It's similar to a donut. I've never had them at Disney but I have had them at Cafe DuMont (sp?) in the New Orleans French Quarter. They were awesome there!

Look 'em up on wikipedia and see what they have listed.

The are basically a type of doughnut.

I've had them in New Orleans and they were very good, but it really is a fancy word for a certain type of doughnut.

Pastry, pronounce "been-yay": they're a deep-fat fried dough, covered with powdered sugar. think a "hot pocket" with nothing inside (and very sweet, of course from the powdered sugar, lol.) Originated in New Orleans, La...are available for a snack credit at Port Orleans French Quarter Sassagoula Food & Floatworks Factory (POFQ counter service) You get 3 for a snack credit (or about $3 or so) which looks like a lot, but really it's about one adult serving, because they look big, but they're hollow.

Eat them hot & fresh...they do not "keep"

Yummo! Do they sell them anywhere in the parks - maybe WS in Epcot??

They are very similar to fried dough you get a fairs in New England. (maybe other places as well, but I haven't been to any fairs anywhere else).
You can find fried dough at epcot by the American Pavillion, and at Typhoon Lagoon.

They are awesome. Be sure and have coffee with them...it's tradition. (or chocolate milk for the kids). Also, if you go with someone who is unfamiliar with them, you're supposed to wait until they're about to take a bite and blow the sugar all over their face. That's the beignet initiation.

They should not be totally hollow if they are cooked right...
