What are ACT's?

and are they important for entry to college. We never had these back in the day and now that DD is a jr., she will be taking PSATs soon and then SAT's in the spring. Does she need to take the ACT's too?

It's a college entance exam, just like SAT. However they are somewhat different in their scoring system, so it's good to try both, IMO. I took the ACT back in '78. Both my DD's took both.

When I was in HS, I only took the ACT's. I think you need to check with the colleges/universities she's intrested in and see if the require the ACT.

You have to find out if the ACT or SAT is the test of choice of the college you are interested in applying to. My school University of Kansas was more interested in ACT, so I never took the SAT.

The ACT is another college entrance exam. As far as her taking it, it depends what college she is interested in going to and which test they want. When I was in high school, some colleges wanted ACT scores and some wanted SAT scores. Most schools that wanted SAT scores at that time were East or West Coast schools. Some took either and alot of Midwestern (where I'm from) schools wanted the ACT. I and most of my friends only took the ACT.
That was 17 years ago though. I think more schools now are accepting either, but I don't know for sure. I'm sure her school guidance counselor or principal would probably know.

Fewer students from the Northeast take them than students from most other regions, as I believe most of the colleges in the Northeast don't require them. I think it's more the schools in the midwest and the south that want ACT scores.
