I have a 30 day trial right now of Norton 360. It will be 79.99 a year after that. Anybody get it cheaper or know of something else that would be good?
I see you are from San Antonio; I am from MD, so I don't know if you hve comcast for yoru internet, but our Comcast actually gives Norton Anti-virus for free with our subscription. If you don't have them, it still may be valuable to look into your existing subscription service...Deb
You don't have to pay anything for an antivirus program. I use Avira Antivir, and also Malwarebytes AntiMalware. Both are great. But I also like Avast and AVG. Take that $79.99 and buy a Disney Gift Card instead !!
Totally disagree with use of free antivirus programs. I am a computer security professional, Master's Degree in Information Security. Every friend that brings me a hosed up computer to clean is using AVG or Avast. Pay the $25 for Symantec or Kaspersky. It will cost you more to get your computer cleaned when AVG free fails you. Free anti-spyware programs such as Spybot or MalawareBytes are good to have.

Sorry, but I know MANY computer professionals (including those in security) that would 100% disagree with you. In fact, I don't know a single one who pay for antivirus. By taking their advice, I have not had an issue within recent memory, nor have any of my friends. I personally use Avast! but I know people who use AVG and Microsoft Essentials with positive results as well.

I think it's key to set it up properly and use common sense when surfing/opening email/etc. I haven't had any issues with AVG, ever. Like you, it was recommended by friends in the industry.
For several years now I have been using the Security System offered thru my internet provider (AT&T)....It is McAfee and I pay a monthly charge (aprox $4) that is added to my monthly bill (it covers all 3 of my computers for one charge and I automatically get all updates. I have been very pleased. Check with your internet provider and see what they offer
We have used a few different ones over the years. My least favorite is Norton-it really slows your system down and affects so many areas. The last one I had, I constantly had to keep changing the settings for it to allow me to go to the itunes store...total pain. Never again.
My favorite is actually Kaspersky. I do pay a yearly fee, but upgrades to the new versions are free and easy to download, like one click easy It's much more user friendly than Norton or McAfee.
