Just would like to start a discussion on what type and location of a new DVC resort. I personally would like to see one similar to OKW on the west coast of Florida (southwest).
The first question is WILL THERE BE ANOTHER DVC RESORT. I'm skeptical but would not expect another large resort or another off property resort. I've given my reasoning previously. Hope I'm wrong on both accounts.
I'd like to see one somewhere in California...maybe just south of Anaheim along the coast.
Of course what I'd really like to see is one in midtown Manhattan....I don't think Disney would have a problem filling it year round but I doubt it'd be a cost effective location.
Sorry, but Disney divesting themselves of properties that were both announced and rumored to be DVC resorts has pretty much made it official that there will be no more off property DVC resorts.
The dismal experiences at HH and especially VB have completely removed any possibility for another off site resort.
On site?
I am not wuite as pessimistic as Dean about an OKW type resort at Bonnet Creek, I doubt it, but I definitely think its possible. I think that we will hear about the next one soon, very soon. I think that it is almost getting too late. They like to announce things in the fall. I think that if we don't hear of something this fall, we will never hear of anything.
I'd like to see a dvc resort at Disneyland, something of the caliber of the new Grand Californian.
I live right next to Sanibel Island, so the idea of a dvc resort close to home seems kind of weird <g>! I agree with the other person who posted that off-property resorts are something we most likely won't see any more of. I talked with some dvc people in HH one year, who said the seasonality of HH was killing them - Disney doesn't handle having an "off season" where they can't fill a resort very well. For that reason, they predict there will never be a resort further north than Hilton Head. Alot can happen in the next 40 years, though!
I think BCV will be the last add-on to an existing resort. When they first announced it I couldn't wait to buy. But the more I see of how it's being done, I think I'd feel like a second rate guest of Y&BC. I've heard talk of the Bonnet Creek area, guess that's as good a place as any. I don't thing they'll try another off-site, but Disneyland would be great, but I think the land cost would make price and dues too high.
I like the AKL idea too. In fact, before they started building AKL, we were told it was supposed to be a DVC. That was from cast members and bus drivers about 5 years ago. Of course, that was false, but it would have been nice.
I can imagine the annual operating budget for the DVC Villas at Animal Kingdom Lodge: Giraffe Chow allocation, Zebra Chow allocation, Gnu Chow allocation...
We would like to see DVC at DL, since we go out there every 3 or 4 years, and it would save big on points. At WDW, we'd like Animal Kingdom Lodge or Polynesian to have DVC units.
I would like to see a DVC resort in the Myrtle Beach area or St. Pete Beach. St. Pete would probably be better because of location and weather. We love the Gulf Coast area. For all of those people that think that VB is a bad thing or wasn't a good idea. I beg to differ. So far, our vacations at VB after our WDW vacations have been most relaxing. We love it there. I just think that more people need to realize what it is like to relax on vacation. St. Pete would be great. I would buy today!
I think that VB is one of the finest resrts in the world. I am very, very happy to have it as an option.
It was also a sales disaster for Disney. The resort is only a fraction of the original plans due to dismal sales. Disney got smacked hard with VB, real hard. So much so that they will never build another off site DVC.
This has already been confirmed by their selling properties slated for DVC resorts.
I don't think the rumors of a DL location would be impossible.
Recently on this board we have seen quite a few DVC members trading at the DL resorts. Granted this is just a small percentage of the total DVC population, but it may show our desire to visit Ca. If there were a west coast DVC option, I believe we would go west more often.
I am sure that DVC looks at where we spend our points when making expansion decisions.
