I have booked my son's entire birthday at disneyland. But I read somewhere you can pay money to have a character of your choice show up at a certain place, then I read you can book a part of a land for an hour. ANyone know what the deal is with these?
Here is what I did book: party at plaza inn, character breakfast and b-day bucket at Goofy's, and a cake to be delivered at dinner at storytellers. What am I missing?
The b-day is March 11. Were going March 7 - 12. Sadly the Disney hotels are all booked solid, so we are at some dumb travelodge.

I can't tell you how to go about either of those things, other then to call vacation planning. I will tell you that both are probable more then the average person would be willing to spend. If they made it affordable, they would have too many people requesting it.

I know that if you are doing a large convention type thing you can have an area of the park. Dh's company had dinner in DCA after it was closed last year. Then they moved the group to an area in front of Soarin' for dessert and drinks. They had soarin' open for them to ride. But, this is a large corp., that paid big money for the event. They are considering being the sponser for Soarin' and paying the millions a year to have the company name on the ride. Not sure if that will happen or not.

I've heard of people paying to have characters at things like weddings/' receptions at the hotels, but not with in the park. Its one thing to have a character in a banquet room for a private reception, totally different to have one in a restuarant or in the park.

I can not imagine how much this would cost. I would not think it is something they "offer" so much as if you have enough money or generate enough publicity they may consider doing for you. I could be wrong.

Disney weddings are held in the park, generally before opening, I think. You can have a character attend those for a fee. I imagine if you were willing to pay the prices they'd do it for a non-wedding event but we're talking thousands of dollars.

Don't quote me, but I remember reading $900 for Mickey or Minnie to attend a wedding, and $3-600 for "lesser" characters. I'm pretty sure this was for Florida, though, where virtually everything is cheaper than Cali!

I don't remember where I read it, but it shocked me so much I remembered it!

I don't know the answer to your question, but Guest Services should be able to put you in touch with the right department. I think it might be VIP services.

But, as to being disappointed and having to stay at Travelodge. I notice that a lot of times Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity, etc. have onsite rooms available when Disneyland.com doesn't. I think that Disney must sell blocks of rooms off to them. So you might be able to get an onsite room if you dig around a little.

Thank you all so much. I will have to do some digging for a room thru expedia. Thanks for that info, I've never used any site like that, but I will give it a try. Thanks for the info on characters, I talked to someone at the disney store and they said it does exsist, and it's $500.00 for an hour. Now I will try your advice and give Guest services a call. Thank you all so much!

For $500, *I* will go to your party dressed as whoever you wish. Until I get kicked out by security.

I put your dates into Getawaytoday and they had availability at all three hotels.:thumbsup2

For room only (March 7-12):
Paradise Pier $1030
DLH $1240
Grand $1680

Check out their website. It's been highly recommended on these boards in the past:

or call them directly 1-800-FUN-TRIP

Forgot to add: Their rates include all taxes and resort fees.

Ahhh, thank you I will check out that site and get it booked. Thanks so much! And for the poster above, Hahahaha, I will pay you $500 if you come dressed as Jack Sparrow, that's my son's request. He wants Jack to be there.

Well, the good news is that Captain Jack has been in the park every time I've been there the last few months. You won't get a private meeting with him, but at least he's there.
