So I've been on these boards a LONG time. I found them when I was planning one of our first trips to WDW and have come back often as we plan other trips, or just to share excitement with others about their trips.

Well, here I am, in the process of planning another trip and I come here pretty much multiple times a day to catch up, brush up, get excited, whatever…and all I read is complaining or rudeness, or snarkiness, or people making fun of another person's post but copying the words almost verbatim. Ugh. I'm so sick of it. And I am sad that these boards have come to this. Even when I am trying to steer clear of the negative vibes I can't. This morning I clicked on the video of the new hub and that whole thread is complaining about why WDW is doing it, how it could be done better, etc. Sheesh people…if your ideas are so much better than the imagineers then go work for WDW and make everything better. If not, shut up and stop complaining. And I am not even going to talk about all of the FP+ complaining because that subject has pretty much been beaten to death!

I miss the days when people who came to these boards actually LIKED WDW. I know there are some nice posts out there but it's getting more and more difficult to dredge past the negative ones to find them. I don't know what the answer is..maybe the mods can create a negative area where anyone who wants to complain can go and get things off their chests. Or maybe I should just stop coming here all together and look for other ways to get excited about my upcoming trip (because depute all of this I really AM excited to go again!).

Because telling people to shut up and stop complaining is a positive thing? I think you may have missed your own point.

I think that's just the internet in general. I'm a member of other, unrelated message boards and they are the same way. My advice is that if you don't feed the trolls, they move on to greener pastures.....

Being new to Disney boards, I am grateful to all the veterans out there that offer great advice! I am beyond excited to get back to the World...AND to use the new MB and FP+. I think it's great that Disney is moving into the 21 century....paper FP is soooo 1999. :cool1:

OP.......enjoy planning and enjoy your trip!!! :cloud9:

Nope. I haven't. You won't find me on here complaining about WDW…that was my point.

There are other places that are more fun. The Lines app chat tends to be happy trip talk. There are other places on here as well, trip reports for one. I think anything that is newsy, like the Hub post, is going to get positive and negative opinions, like any other news story.

I think that if you found members of this message board to be more enamored and less critical of WDW in the past, it was because Disney was different then, not the people who post here. During the five years between when you joined and when I joined Disney was still in a recovering economy and catering to their guests more. Over the last few years (certainly since I've joined) that's turned around, especially since they discovered more markets to exploit and became less focused on their existing markets.

I don't believe you'll ever get what you want out of this message board, which appears to be for it to be a fan board where no one ever takes WDW to task for anything. Certainly not as long as the current owners run it, from what I hear of their take on WDW on their podcasts.

And yeah, there appear to be some people posting things I don't care for today, but I can see that without opening those threads and they won't bother me between now and when Cyrano eventually has to lock them up.

I was on this board several years ago to plan a trip and just came back over the last few months. I just read what I want and ignore people that are being pissy. I figure if they want to get all riled up then let them. I've got other things to do-like planning our first trip to Universal and next years trip to Disney.

Sorry if the shrinkage of pixie dust has you bummed.

Interesting. A thread like this came up the other day. I think the answer there which I agreed with most was... if you don't like the conversation then start one you do like.

I enjoy the FP+ discussions... The DDP value discussions, the Mine Train and the price hike discussions. Right there, that seems to be 4 pretty big current events type topics that seem really relevant to discuss, tear apart, and debate. That is what's new at the parks. And discussing those current events is what forums are for.

And any other topic I raise asking a genuine question, always gets answered promptly, 20 different ways. :)

I also enjoy the positive ideas, reading trip reports, dining reviews, and I've found more information here about my resort than I did on Disney's actual website. So amid all the chatter, there is definitely still tons of useful information being exchanged. I also skip so many posts that I have no interest in. I don't even open them unless the subject sounds interesting. :confused3

I actually find the areas I frequent most (the trip reports, etc.) 99% of the people are positive and supportive and "love" Disney

Other areas are more mixed but you can usually tell which threads are going to have more negative spin just by the titles and avoid those.

There is something to the internet becoming a lot of people "hate participate" in - that is, they only go on to complain and vent and find other people doing the same so they feel better about their own negative attitude and that does happen here somewhat

Plus, I do think crowds have gone up a lot at Disney (probably from the economy having, at least, partially recovered) that is adding to stress and when combined with testing new technology is making it worse

Plus - whether after all is said and done and the kinks are worked out with FP+/Magic bands the end result is a positive or a negative it is changing how people have to tour and a lot of the people on here are more of the "comando" style and this new system doesn't appear geared towards that style or touring so there is complaining there

Long of the short - still a lot of positives here, but you do have to try to avoid/minimize the negative and up to you if it is worth it (I still find it worth it)

I think there is a eb and flow thing to the negativity, somtimes there is a lot of complaining sometimes there is more happy posts. After all negativity is contagious like no epidemic ever were. I find that when a part of the forum goes this way I try to read there less than other places, currwntly the cruise board is my happy place.
The important thing is to not forgett you love going on your holidays and love Disney so don't let others oppinions get you down. And if they did try to brush it off and read another board. That might help.

I hope you have a great trip

Even when I am trying to steer clear of the negative vibes I can't. This morning I clicked on the video of the new hub and that whole thread is complaining about why WDW is doing it, how it could be done better, etc.

It's a discussion board - where people discuss things. If everyone simply gushed about how wonderful everything is, that's not much discussion. It would be a pretty boring place if all everyone talked about was how great everything is/was/is going to be.

Sheesh people…if your ideas are so much better than the imagineers then go work for WDW and make everything better. If not, shut up and stop complaining.

And this statement is all sunshine and roses? :rolleyes1

Well, I, for one, am going to complain when I don't like something. The point of message boards was to get both information and opinion hear in a public forum. The only way to get true information is to get both sides of an argument. It's when it turns into personal attacks that the entire thing goes down the toilet. That, I am not okay with.

Why can't someone complain about what they don't like... just like you are doing right now? Last I checked, we all have the same freedoms. If you don't like what someone is posting, let them know or ignore it. It's really not a big deal in the long run.

So far, in about 60 trips, Disney World disappointed me once. And that was because of me being in a wheelchair for a short amount of time in my life and feeling sorry for myself. Only time I cry ears of sadness and not tears of happiness. I haven't been back since because of health issues but will return next weekend! Staying offsite with annual passes so no advanced FastPass+ reservations, no priority seating stuff. Nothing but my husband, Disney World and what it can offer.

I've read the FastPass+ posts and know what we can and cannot do. Does it bother me? Slightly but I don't really care. It's MY vacation, and a well deserved one. so *I* will do what I want went I want.

I guess my point is, no one should take over your experience except you. I read the negative responses to things and chuckle at the ones that don't apply to me. I do take advantage of things but on my next trip, it's all about my husband and me. And I think that's where people need to focus. What is best for THEIR family. Not anyone else's. THEIRS.

Gee, a negative thread started to complain about all the negativity and complaining. What a novel concept. Thanks OP for such a unique contribution. Have a Magical Day.pixiedust:

OP I usually stay in the Resorts, Dining and Trip Reports thread. The folks in there are so helpful and fun. I will not read the negative threads because frankly I don't want to be involved in that stuff. The TPAS thread is particularly bad at times. :hippie:

(and yes I'm regretting reading this and probably should not post a response so now I'll move on and view some food porn in the dining review thread!! :rotfl2:)

Nope. I haven't. You won't find me on here complaining about WDW…that was my point.

But we'll find you on here complaining about people and telling them to shut up.
Complaining about people is okay, complaining about WDW is not, I think I got it.

And you put it on the theme park strategies board. What exactly does your complain thread have to do with theme park strategies? It doesn't serve any purpose for those planning trips, its just a way for you to get your complaints in. Isn't it ironic?
