Last year DH and I went resort hopping and I fell in love with AKL. The kids and I are heading to the World next week (no DH this trip). I had wanted to go over to AKL, maybe have lunch and check out the resort so the kids could see it too ~ I am hoping to stay there next summer for our big family trip before DD goes off to college.

What's it like there now with the construction going on? Is it okay to walk around and check things out? Are there a lot of areas blocked off? Any animals left there? I know they moved quite a few people to other resorts due to the contruction. Just wondering if it's worth it to go during contruction. TIA!

We were there a week ago for dinner at Boma's. Left AK around 3:30 to give ourselves 2 hours to explore AKL. Talked a bit with the DVC cm, she pointed to the black tarps on the top floors. We didn't hear any noise at that time but that was late Friday afternoon. The animals were out in all the savannahs although one of the savannah guides said that they were going to put the animals from the savannah closest to the construction in their pens starting this week. I dont' know if that is true. But there are still plenty of areas to view the animals. The grounds are beautiful and the lobby had a small balcony area that we rested for awhile and there's an outside balcony viewing area. I did take a picture of the construction that was past the far building, you could see the construction fences but again it was late Friday afternoon, and we didn't hear any noise but the red river hogs running through the brush:)

We spent quite a bit of time talking to one of the guides from Africa. It was very informative and he had so much enthusiasm for sharing with us.

It is definitely worth going over and having the kids go to each look out point plus there are activities during the day for guests. While we were there, the small overlook area had a gentleman teaching kids how to use the African drums. Plus there was some kind of craft but by time I finished talking with the DVC cm, they had finished up.

thanks!! I gues we will have to make time to go over and explore then! I wasn't sure what to expect after I read about all the people being moved to other resorts. I guess I figured the place would be deserted and the animals would be gone! I just love AKL ~ the lobby is breath taking! Thanks again
