What airport should you fly into when going to DL? I know there is LAX in LA but is there others that you could use? I've heard of John Wayne, but where is that?

Jet Blue goes to Long Beach Airport.

My favorite airline with my favorite airport. (Step off the plane, walk a couple hundred yards, grab your bags. walk a few more steps to your cab or rental car - sweeeeeeeet)

We need a sticky on this maybe! Lots of people want to know this and with the board moving along...it gets bumped off the first page so fast! :cool1:

Not your fault though Danny!

SNA (John Wayne/Santa Ana) is the closest to Disneyland. It is a smallish airport, I think under 25 gates. Next closest is the above mentioned teeeeeny tiny Long Beach Airport. And after that is Ontario (my airport!) also smallish with less than 25 gates too maybe? All of these airports are under 45 minutes from Disneyland in normal traffic and all are located on major freeways, with Long Beach being the furthest to travel on surface streets (maybe 5 minutes).

After those choices there are Burbank (small but a long ways to travel on some of the busiest freeways) and LAX which is HUGE, difficult to manage, and also a long ways on busy freeways.

We have almost always used John Wayne. We used LAX once, because the agent made a mistake. However, this time we used Long Beach. It was perfect for us. We were able to get a direct flight from Seattle. When we use SNA (john wayne) we always end up with a lay over in SF. We loved how quick and easy it is for everything there. We did have some trouble getting to the hotel because of construction and poor marking on the hwy, but other then that it was great. We took Ball road, which is a straight shot to the aiport on the return and it worked perfect.

I realize there are smaller airports closer to DL, but I like to get the cheapest airfare possible. Last July we flew from the east coast to LAX and got a fabulous deal. I couldn't believe how cheap it was compared to some of the other airfare costs we paid last summer. We flew non stop from Philly to LAX and I think that must be some major route and resulted in the great rate. Yeah LAX is a pain to navigate and it was a drive to DL but the cheap airfare made it worth it.

More to $pend at DL.

Good point- does depend on where you are coming from. Right now I can get rates from Seattle to
Long Beach $183 / plus tax / round trip
LAX $203 / plus tax/ round trip
SNA $217 (or if I stick with Alaska Air like the other 2 airports $303)

Clearly, I would go with the cheapest, easiest airport!

When we went to DL last year we flew into SNA. It was really quick to DL and the small size made it easy to navigate. When we were booking our trip we checked out prices for flights into both SNA and LAX. It was about $3 more per person, round trip. But the cost of transporation (shuttle in our case) more than offset the added cost. I think we paid about $14/person for shuttle from SNA to DL each way when it'd be about double from LAX.

I wanted to fly into ONT, but LAX had direct, and cheap, flights with SWA, so I booked that. I've never been to either, but I've "google-mapped" both airports, and LAX is just massive. I'm a private pilot, and LAX is one airport I would NEVER choose to land at compared to some of the smaller strips out there.

Can anyone give me a time frame as to how long (in normal LA traffic), it will take to go from LAX to Disneyland? I've read all the directions, but it's always good to know how long it might take.

Two weeks ago, it took us 45 min to 1 hour to get to and from our hotel. It really isn't that bad. We went with the cheapest airfare there was. That was from LAX. It wasn't that bad to navigate and we had a very friendly gentleman greet us when we got off the shuttle. He helped us a great deal.

best.

Can anyone give me a rough estimate of the cost of a taxi from the John Wayne/OC airport to Disneyland Hotel?

About $35+ tip. Ask for a flat rate before you leave the airport.

We always fly and out of LAX because it's cheaper. It's really not too hard to get a cheap shuttle to and from DL area from there and is about a 45 minute ride.

That being said, if I had money, I would never fly into LAX. It is dirty and we find it impossible to find good assistance/service.
