What airlines are people using??

Interesting. I prefer DL over AS. Did MCO-SAN on AS and the lack of seatback entertainment was annoying given the flight time and the seats were miserable. I swear they forgot the padding completely...

My wife and I have our own Alaska Visa cards, between the nearly free companion fare we get with each year, and our purchasing/points we've able to fly to/from Maui for a two week trip very affordably over Chirstmas, first bag free makes it even better.

I could care less about seat back entertainment, in fact I really don't care of having a screen flashing all over the place. I bring my own iPad with my own shows, hang it on the seat back or set on the tray - all good for me.

I've only had one flight with poor seats, obviously was older, it sucked but c'est la vie. They go where I want to go and really never had a bad flight with Alaska.

Hello. Just wondering what people are doing for flights these days. I’m used to using southwest but prices have gone up dramatically in the last couple of years. Going from stl to mic is now over 2k round trip for a family of 4.

To Orlando, Southwest is still the lowest cost carrier and the best in terms of variety of direct flights available. In February each leg for me ran about $150, so $300 for a round trip. With other airlines, you have baggage fees too if you check bags. I also really like their flexible cancelation polices. I have a Southwest credit card too, so often have lots of Southwest points I can use too.

They are also the largest carrier from my home airport.

Frontier is one other airline that flies direct to Orlando from where we live. Prices rarely are better than Southwest. Times are not as good and there is usually only one flight a day. I like Southwest so much more than Frontier too, and usually avoid this airline (bad customer service experience and flight experiences in the past that may be just one off things, but things seem to happen every time I have flown with them leaving me with negative thoughts about them). I'm now at the point where if pricing is close and times are acceptable on both I am willing to pay a little more and do Southwest (just a much better experience).

For other places I go out west that Southwest doesn't fly to or doesn't fly direct to from where I live, I'm all over the board (Delta, American, United, Alaska Air, Air Canada) are the main ones I do.

These days (it still depends on how much the premium is) but I am usually willing to pay more to get the direct flight. With the most non-stops from our airport that puts Southwest at the top of the pack for lots of destinations for me.

I have been happy flying Allegiant. They are my preferred for price/ value. I fly to Sanford airport. It's a lot more chill than Orlando and the prices are great. The last Allegiant plane that I was on was brand new. I think we were the first flight. It had chargers for phones and more leg room. You still only get a free bag if the flight is booked with a United CC correct?

Point bookings or if another CC no free bags at United. At least that is what I remember.

If I book an AA or Delta Flight with my CSR or AMEX Card or used points I would still get free bags with them as I have those cards. United is sneaky with that free bag offer unless they have changed?

Allegiant can be a good option depending on season. Used to fly it constantly to SRQ when going to our condo as I didn't care where I sat and didn't need to check any bags or even a carryon. The problem with them is they don't go fly routes every day. One year coming back from MCO there were lots of flight cancellations and this one couple we talked to at the hotel said they were stuck for four more days as that was there next scheduled day.

Primary-Southwest. Secondary-Delta. United and American don't fly nonstop from my airports. I checked for my April trip last year and the price dropped significantly January 16, which was 90 days out. My April flight for this year dropped almost by half yesterday, again 90 days out. This is both on Delta and SW.

It really depends where we are going.

If going down to Disney we exclusively fly SWA as they are the only direct and that makes a huge impact not having to deal with flying into a hub with DS.

Agreed. In addition to SWA, we have JetBlue and Frontier to choose from.

We fly Allegiant out of Belleville, Illinois when the days of travel line up with their schedule. Most of the time we end up with Southwest because Allegiant is so limited in flights. Next month's trip is costing over $500/person from STL to MCO.

To Orlando....It's always American Airlines as they are the only airline to fly out of CLT with direct flights to MCO (I think Spirit & Frontier have like 2 flights per week that are Non stop but never the day or time I want to fly)

We use Google Flights for check for the cheapest flight. We aren't loyal to any one airline.

We fly from Philly (PA), Newark (NJ), or Trenton (NJ) and use any combination of Spirit, American, Frontier, Southwest, or United.
We've used Frontier mostly because its easy to accumulate points/miles & get free or low cost flights.
Southwest is nice but they cut back their flights out of Philly.

We currently use Southwest, and we have since we began flying in 2013 (been 14 times to Disney and flown all but once). Just easier to navigate Love Field in Dallas than DFW. And it's usually been cheaper. Our round trip flights for November were $90 each. But now with them starting to charge for bags and picking your seats, it might be cheaper to start looking at DFW and American. Instead of driving and parking at The Parking Spot for $18/day, we can just uBer both ways as we live about 12 minutes from the big airport.

We have started using Allegiant and love the direct flights from our small regional airport. Been to Phoenix and Vegas on them recently. Just booked them for an upcoming WDW trip. We used to do Southwest to Disney but the airport for Southwest is 2 hours away and we'd usually spend the night before at a hotel near that airport. And, all other flights out of our regional airport are connecting flights. On Allegiant all said and done, for 2 tix, we were about $600 cheaper then Southwest and $500 cheaper then United (with a connection).

I have never been on a single JFK-MCO flight that wasn’t packed full regardless of carrier. But pricing genuinely depends on where you’re flying out from.

JetBlue used to be the best option for me out of JFK and was my preferred domestic airline to the point I got their card. They are no longer automatically the cheapest since they started their route cutting spree at MCO though, and most times I find Delta is actually beating them on price. For our last September trip I originally booked 2 one ways on JetBlue on TB points but they changed our flight home from 9pm to 2pm. I gave Delta a look and it was actually cheaper on both legs, both cash wise and SkyMiles, and they had an equivalent flight to our original evening time. So I canceled both JetBlue flights and rebooked on Delta with SkyMiles. Even sniped a very cheap upgrade to FC that still ended up being cheaper in total than JetBlue would have been.

United is a no go for me since they lost their slots at JFK and EWR is too far out of my way, and I’d rather walk than fly American after too many poor experiences in the past. So for now I’m mostly flying Delta bc it’s the best value lately. I did book JetBlue for my July 4th weekend trip but I don’t feel very confident the same thing won’t happen again.

I only fly Jetblue if its not a big deal getting wherever I need to be a day or 2 late, as they are one of the worst for delays and cancellations. (I think only Spirit and Fronteir are worse than Jetblue in that regard). This is not my opinion, this is based on the actual numbers from the Department of Transportation. There is a reason why in the last 4 years almost every independant ranking of airlines has Jetblue as one of the last as far as cancellations and delays.

…okay? I’ve never had issues with them as far as getting where I need to go, but I try to fly early in the am regardless of the carrier, and flying home to NYC from anywhere in the summer or winter is a game of Russian roulette in general due to weather and congestion. JFK and LGA had a full ground stoppage the other day bc of severe storms. But it’s always a crapshoot out of MCO in the summer. I was delayed 3.5 hrs getting home the other week from Disney, on Delta.

I have mostly switched my domestic flying to Delta just bc B6 has cut a lot of flights out of JFK to the point they are no longer automatically cheapest or most convenient with times, like I said in the 7 month old post you’re quoting. But I fly at least once every other month and before B6 started route cutting I had no more issues with them than anyone else. I do have a LAS-JFK booked on B6 in Sept just to finally try Mint.
