What airlines are in trouble....

Is USAIRWAYs doing OK??? Are there any other airlines that could be going under between now and April???

I am trying to book DH a flight from Chicago to SAV for a trip to Hilton head, and some of the smaller airlines fly there, but I dont want to book a flight on an airline that could crumble.

I haven't heard anything about USAirways lately. They have about 1/3 of the Richmond market so anything about them makes the news here.

I think all the major airlines are somewhat stable for now. "Somewhat" and "for now" being the key words in that sentence, of course. Between now and April, I think you'd be fine.

Have you checked AirTran? They fly into Savannah and are quite stable.

USAirways merged with America West. They will still be called US Airways. I suggest visiting www.flyertalk.com for information on all the airlines.

For now they appear to be stable.

There are VERY few airlines that are making money so in that sense most of them are in trouble.

DL and NW are in bankruptcy. However, I don't expect either of them to quit flying. Most of the other majors are reporting losses each quarter.

SW and JetBlue are making money (I think)

All of the legacy carriers are semi stable for now. NWA concerns me the most right now. No airline is really doing well finanacially including the new USAir. Also SWA is starting to become concerned about finances but they are in no means unstable. They are probably the most stable.

Agreed about NWA. They have a pending pilot's strike right now that could potentially do them in. I live in Minneapolis and have mixed feelings. Many peolple in MN are employed by Northwest, but as a consumer, living in a hub city is auful. Airfares are so high if you want a direct flight, there's almost no competetion.

Truly, I'd love to see Southwest of Jetblue here.

I just booked our flight to Hawaii on NWA last night for APril!!?? I guess I'll just have to watch the news, keep my eyes on this website & keep praying! There will be 4 panicked people if they go under! Deb

Don't worry too much, but you might want to have a back-up plan.

Looks like a big game of chicken to me.

Yea I wouldnt be terribly worried. But their management sucks and they seem to be in worse shape with overall morale and just financially.
