What age to ride Forbidden Journey

My daughter will have just turned 7 and be in the beginning of 1st grade when we go to Universal in September. She loves Harry Potter and we have read the first two books. ( I feel that the rest of the books are a little mature for her, though she is driving me crazy to read the rest.) She really wants to ride forbidden journey and she is already tall enough. I was just wondering how scary others thought the ride to be and at what age their kids rode and enjoyed this ride? Thanks!

This is such a "your mileage may vary" thing. I'd have let my kids ride it at 7 for sure, and a few parts might have scared them a little (the Yeti on Expedition Everest (and the part where you go backwards) gave them a scare when they first rode it at 6 and 7 years old). Of course, I don't think there's anything wrong with a little scare all in good fun, and if she's a Potter fan, she will most likely love it and beg to ride it again.

Thanks, that is kind of what I was thinking. We went to Disney when she was 4 and she still says that Tower of Terror is her favorite ride. She's a pretty brave, thrill seeking kid. She was furious at 4 that she was too small to ride Rockin Roller Coaster.

I suggest you find a youtube video and "ride" the ride to test the scariness. You won't get a perfect idea because it can be quite dark, but you'll get a feel for it.

There are dementors and spiders that are very close to you.

DD was 8 when she first rode it. She is by no means a brave one! Everest scared her to tears, she won't even try Tower of Terror! But she loves HP and happily got on FJ. She loved it! We even did single rider line and she was in the "car" next to me when the ride stopped. I was worried she would be scared but she got off telling me how she calmed the mom down next to her. LOL I didn't find it scary at all - just surprising and fun AND the more you ride, the more fun it is because you can anticipate the flying. :)

If your DD is a HP fan - she'll love it!

Lol! My 15 yo DS rode it once when he was 12 and won't set foot on it again. He goes through the queue with us, then takes the "nope, I'm good exit" as he calls it and waits for us in the rider swap area. He can handle dark, loud, upside down, or backwards, just not all at once. He also will not do RnRC or TOT, but has done the orange mission space 3 times in a row without even blinking. Go figure. It truly is YMMV!

Depends on the kid..Mine would not go near it at age 8.She finally rode it a year later and loved it.

My grandaughter is tall for her age and rode it at 5 years old (she was turning 6 in a week though.) She loved the ride. She was more scared on Splash mountain and JPRA because of the drops.

My son rode HP at 6 and loved it! He will try anything he is tall enough for. I'm a big chicken, but I loved it too! :)

In my opinion, it's more Dinosaur /Haunted Mansion / Stitch/ A Bugs Life scary than roller coaster scary. It's not fast, upside down, with drops scary. It's dark animatronic monster scary.

Some kids do fine on wild roller coasters but freak out on a dark ride. Some love dark rides, but freak on coasters.

I actually thought parts of the ride were a little scary. I've never liked my legs hanging down where I can't see what's under them, so knowing there were these big monsters right under me by my feet that I couldn't see kind of made me nervous. Just in a fun way, not a super scary way, though. If your child can handle being alone in the dark while large animatronic monsters attack, they will be fine. However, if A Bugs Life scares them, I wouldn't recommend it.

The scare factors are: (Beware spoilers)
Dark ride
Limited vision, cannot see feet hanging down or what's near you, cannot see parent sitting beside child, cannot see other ride vehicles, only see the HP world around you
Life size animatronic monsters including a dragon, dementors, acromantula (giant spiders), and the whomping willow that chase and or attack you, these monsters sometimes get very close to you, I'd say within a few feet, you actually fly between the whomping willows branches as it tries to smash you
Ride goes through the chamber of secrets
Large dragon on a screen chases you
One of the rooms appears to be collapsing with you in it
Some of the scenes on the screen can be a little intense and cause motion sicknesses
Ride does move swooping up down and side to side, but not upside down (ride movement tame compared to a coaster, more nausea inducing than scary)

If your daughter didn't have an issue with Tower of Terror, I can't imagine she would have a problem with Forbidden Journey. My kids were also about 4 the first time they rode ToT - and loved it!
