What age/size for a booster car seat?

Up til now, we didn't need to buy more carseats...now DD2 is getting too big for the carrier and we'll need a new one. I was hoping I could just buy a booster car seat for DD1 and use hers, but I'm thinking thats not going to happen. Does anyone know the height/weight age to move to a booster seat? Thanks.

I think it is 40 pounds. My DD is 9 and is still under 80 pounds, so she uses a booster that is just a seat that lifts her higher.

The requirement for my son's booster was 40 lbs. That was a convertible car seat that is used as an infant rear-facing up to an 80lb child.

I'm a little confused, are you still using a carrier for a 2 y/o? I used a carrier until about 9 monthes, then switched to car seat. I kept both my kids in a car seat until they were 4 then switched to the booster seat. They have just passed a law that kids should remain in a booster until 8 y/o for the seat belt to fit properly. DD 4 has the big booster seat, DS7 uses just the bottom piece to sit on. Hope this helps.

2 kids - 5 month old in carrier....almost 3 year old in convertible car seat....shes not even 30 lbs yet and we like to have car seats for each in both of our cars, so looks like we'll be spending money on carseats. Thanks.

KristiKelly, LOL!!!!! I thought the same thing! I thought she had a 2yo in a carrier too. I had a response all typed out then I reread it and realized it she meant her second daughter..

They need to stay in a car seat with the 5 point restraint until they are 40 pounds. Then they go into a booster until they are 4'9" and 80 pounds, or are 8 years old, depending on where you get the info.

DD1 just turned 9, but she will stay in her booster until she's 4'9"
