What age does this start?

My oldest has had a "sweetheart" since second grade, but didn't really notice any other boys at all until this year. My youngest is completely boy crazy and has had several boyfriends, starting at age 3.

Several little girls staked their claim on my son in 1st and 2nd grade. He liked one back in 6th grade but now has no interest again. They talk about it a lot in 4th and 5th, by 6th the girls are acting on their crushes and most of the boys(few exceptions might be the scary/needy ones) really act on being a boyfriend no earlier than 9th grade. I had a student tell me the other day that he was never going to be a boyfriend, he was just going to 'have sex.' I let him know under no uncertain terms that I thought his plan was unacceptable, dangerous and innapropriate for us to discuss further. Watch out for THAT guy too!

My DGS went to Disney with us when he was 5, he's 10 now. He wanted to buy a souvenir for his "girlfriend", a cute little Tigger necklace that she still has. They had gotten married and divorced that summer but were still boyfriend and girlfriend. He wouldn't even buy a gift for his mom. There are more girls in his class than boys this year but he has already "dated" several of them. I asked him where they went, the lunchroom? DS thought this was funny until I reminded him that he will have a teenager when he is 29. The kids in my area seem to be boy/girl crazy at a very young age and it is scary.

I think it's different for everyone. I didn't really start paying attention to boys and liking them until 8th grade. I'm a sophomore now and not really even wanting a boyfriend still yet.

I got married in kindegarten! His name was Rob, and he lived down the street. He once asked me to be his girlfriend, and I asked what that was. He said it's a girl that he plays with all the time. I said we already do that. So then he said the next step is to get married, so we did. We even honeymooned in the kiddie pool!
