What age did you get your child a DS??

:lmao:
I have no idea what you are really referring to, but DS means Dear Son around here. :)

It took me a minute to understand her question, too! I thought she was coyly asking when she should have a second child! :rotfl2:

My DD got hers at 9....I'm getting her a DSi this Christmas and she'll be 10 in March.

First kids was 8 and got one for Christmas. Second worked around the house and saved money when she was 6. Four year old still doesn't have one.

I kept video games out of the house as long as I could for the older one, but they younger one will be one of "those" kids. ;)

I think 5 or 6 is about the age most kids get a DS around here. My kids are currently saving their money for a DS. They're doing tons of household chores for spare change. :rotfl: They've currently got about $20, after saving for about 3 weeks. :goodvibes We'll probably get them DSi's for Christmas.

We couldn't decide between a Wii or DS's last Christmas but Grandma made the decision for us when she bought them a Wii. They've never played the Wii a ton, they like it but we limit the use. We're really loving Sports Resort right now, BTW. :goodvibes

We bought them iPods for their birthdays. It's much cheaper to buy individual songs for them, than to buy cd's. And they love music.

DD was 5 when I got her one, sometimes I think it was a waste of money as she plays it so infrequently.

If i'm reading your post correctly....

They are earning / saving money to buy a DS and you're going to turn around and buy them a DSI in 4 months????

Are you not expecting them to save up enough before Christmas or will they then have both?????? :confused3

They're saving money for a DS but they're going back to school and there's no way they'll have enough money to buy one before Christmas. I started giving them change for chores because I wanted them to keep their rooms clean and help out - if they do a good job I give them some change. ;) So, we plan on buying them DSi's for Christmas. They will not have both.

My son got his at his 8th birthday, my husband and I had them and he really wanted one. Now our daughter was given the ultimatum of learning to read before she can get one. She'll be getting hers for her 7th birthday (In Feb)

We are a gamer family, my kids do liek to play outside like any other kid but I can't tell you how much video games have helped my son with his motor skills esepcially his hand-eye coordination. They also helped him excell at reading. He couldn't read a word in the beginning of 1st grade by the end of 1st grade he was reading at a 3rd grade level and by the end of 3rd grade (this past year) he is reading at a 6 grade plus level.

My son is developmental delayed so these are some major things for him. I just wish we could find a game that would force him to improve him math skills...
