What age did you allow DD to wear make up?

My mom didn't let me wear makeup until high school, but when she did start letting me wear it we went to the Clinique counter and I got a full lesson in applying everything correctly

I am years (I think;) ) away from this issue, but this is what I intend to do with dd's when the time comes. I was a really late bloomer and didn't wear makeup until college. I lived with my dad and never had anybody to show me anything about makeup until a couple college girlfriedns took "pity" on my and got me to start wearing mascara. I have always said that when dd's are ready, I will take them to Clinique (where I get my makeup), so a "professional" can show them the proper ways to apply and the best colors to use. Hopefully, there won't be any "war paint" here.

This is a sore subject with me. DH's brother's DD just turned 13. I've seen her twice over the summer and I'm really upset that her mother is letting her go out of the house with all that makeup on. I was shocked!!!I mean, the works!!
Foundation, blush, glitter eyeshadow, Heavy eyeliner, heavy mascara and lipstick!! I hate to say it, but she looks like a little streetwalker. It just sickens me. What on earth is my SIL thinking?? I talked to my MIL about it, she was upset also.
My DD who is starting her 2nd year of college was also shocked!
We never get anywhere with my SIL, she just lets her DD do whatever she wants.

Reminds me of when my niece when she was that age. Her family was very conservative - she was homeschooled, home churched etc. - so it shocked me out of my gourd when I saw her like that! (Luckily I was shocked speechless and managed to keep my mouth shut!)

my dd is allowed to wear blush and eyeshadow to bar and bat mitzvahs, but not to school or anyplace else.

I agree with wdwnutze.

Also,

I don't think it matters much the age, but the attitude. I would rather see a 10 year old with a little mascara and blush artfully applied, than a 16 year old with a whole platter full on.

It it not the age, but the attitude. Most of my neices are around these ages, and most of them really don't even want to wear make-up, and when they do, it is very tasteful.

So, it doesn't matter the age, it matters whether it is done in good taste. I think I started wearing make-up in 6th grade. Now I wish I didn't have to!!! LOL

My dd is going into 8th grade and she asked me if she could wear colored lip gloss and eyeshadow this year. I said yes. I'd like to see how she looks when she leaves the house so I can be sure she isn't too heavy handed- ya know what I mean?
