My family's almost grown. I have to do things on my own now. What activities do you like to do solo? I like window shopping at the mall.

Quite frankly, pretty darned little. I love having the people (or at least person) I care about with me, regardless of what I'm doing.

Well, my kids are young, so I'm still in the thick of it and it is hard to find time alone. But when I do have some time to myself, I love reading when it's really quiet, if it's raining, all the better. Having a cup of tea, going on DisBoards and my quirkiest is ironing! I feel guilty ironing when the kids are around since I feel like my time is spent better with them.
I wish I could find more time to scrapbook...
I used to adore shopping at the mall, but find I don't have much patience any more for it, probably our budget sucking kids have something to do with that! :)

I love to read when it is raining outside, especially during the summer!

As I've aged, I've noticed that I don't enjoy being solo as much. I have much more fun doing things with others! When I was a student, I had a lot of independent time. I quite enjoyed it!!! Not anymore.

Luckily, I'm in a very active church and can join stuff there.

I am limited to window shopping because of finances. I still find it fun to see what is in style. Gives me more of an idea what to buy at the Thrift store I volunteer at.

I was 36 when I had my son, I'm used and am comfortable doing just about EVERYTHING alone. Though I'm a very outgoing person I like my privacy and guard it with my life.

I took several machine quilting classes starting about 10 years ago, and when I have the time I enjoy doing that. I love choosing a pattern, finding fabrics that please me (or the person I'm making the quilt for), the planning, and the piecing. It's so soothing and destressing; I can get lost in it for hours!!

With the increase of my e-mail friends and grandmothers I now know, I have found it helpful to keep a list of the kids and grand-kids names. I just have it in a book by my computer. It's really helpful for keeping new friend's names straight.

I meant to start a new thread but oh well.

Sounds like it is fun to get lost in quilting. I love that feeling of being engrossed in something. I like to do that with recipes for a party, looking them up and analyzing them.

I go to the movies at least once a week by myself. It's ridiculously easy... you're supposed to be quiet in the theater anyway, so it works out nicely!

Read, write, go to movies, surf the Internet, scrapbook, clean my house, go to church, shop, go to museums, garden, go to the library, go to bookstores, cross stitch, watch TV, watch videos.

I'm really a social person -- I like groups. But I have quite a few things to turn to during my solitary moments. :)

ETA: I know a lot of empty-nesters who are starting to go on group tours and are traveling all over the place. A lot of people go on those solo and enjoy meeting people through the trips.

I enjoy going out with people but I also enjoy my alone time- I like going to the movies alone, out to a quiet lunch, shopping...I have even went on a solo vacation for a week to the Bahamas alone and enjoyed that very much!! Just hanging by the pool with a book, going to the beach....was very nice. Sitting out in my yard on the swing reading a book or napping....I am very comfortable being with myself LOL....

I like my alone time. It is funny because my mom has a very hard time being alone but I think I got this from my dad. :)

I like to read, scrapbook, surf the web, grocery shop, cloth shop, antique shop, watch movies at home, and visit our library.

I started doing things alone right out of HS. I started working and had Tuesdays and Wednesdays off through the week. No one else did--they were either in school or at work so I started doing things by myself and now I am used to it. I think I need it as well as enjoy it. :)

I mentioned doing some time at WDW alone. I also enjoy a little of that. I usually end up meeting people and visiting in line or whatever with them but I enjoy some WDW time alone.

I prefer to go to the movies by myself. It's just about the only time I actually get to choose the movie. :thumbsup2

I also prefer to shop by myself--sort of like above, that's the only time I get to go to the stores I want to. If I take my mom, she can't walk far, so we get her stuff and leave. DD drives me insane if I try to go to a store that I want to go to--she's past the stage where she would complain or roll her eyes but I can tell she's bored out of her mind.

Gosh........I live alone now (DD20 is 200 miles away at college) so I do EVERYTHING alone!

Quite frankly, I like being alone. I cook for me (whatever I want), I shop, read, watch tv, play with my dogs......

I spent 45 years with others.......and while I liked it.......the past two years have been by myself.......and I LOVE it!!!

Back when I could drive I used to love to drive by myself, i really really miss it. i am almost never alone now and actually sort of panic when i am. I used to be quite different though when i could see better. I once went to Europe alone and really enjoyed myself. I also used to like shopping alone without having to wait on anyone. Now things are so different.

Once a week. That sounds enjoyable.:goodvibes

It is! We have a second-run theater that is awesome. $5.50 gets you a movie, a pop, and a popcorn. For another $1 or so, you can upgrade the popcorn to pretzel bites.
