What about your dogs?

We have a teenage boy next door who dog sits. He comes in several times a day to feed/walk/check on the dogs. Our dogs have an electric fence so he'll occasionally let them outside to play for a while he periodically checks on them. They are a dog loving family so I know that my dogs are well taken care of (and judging by how excited they get to see him, my dogs love him as well).

We pay him well, but it's still cheaper (and much less stressful on our dogs) than a kennel.

We've used both a kennel to board the dogs in, or hire a pet sitter to drop by twice a day.

the dogs go to a kennel they are fine for the week, they will be going to a new kennel cause the one we go to the guy who runs it is not open for the winter.

This past trip we paid a friend who runs her own petting sitting business to watch our dog. Her "family" rate was still $15 more than if I had taken him to the kennel nearby (which we are doing next time).
