i would really like the advice of some of you who have really researched this so well. my wife and i both teach. i also coach football and basketball. this really limits our trips to wdw to the summer, usually june. we also drive, not fly, as it is only about a 8 - 9 hour drive for the two of us. this cuts out most of the codes disney gives. my wife loves the flexibility of the UPH pass and we both love the silver package (two features per person per day). we have been members with the DC for two years and feel like it has saved us some money. we spend about 100 -200 for soveniours and stuff which just about covers the DC fee. with the closing of the DC we don't know of any other program that can give us discounts on our trip with the features we like at that time of year.
for us i thought the visa card sounded great with the 1% back.
i know its not a super way but it is the only thing i have heard of. i thought this might be a way for us to save some money on our future trips with no other ways to save that we know of.
if any one has ways we can save or see some error in our logic that we have overlooked i would love the tips.
thanks

My husband also teaches, and I work at a college. That means that we are stuck visiting WDW at peak times--Christmas, President's Week, etc. I have the DC and also got an AP which saved us a lot of money in 2001 when I got a great discount on a cabin at FW for a Christmas trip.

I got the Disney Visa, but I think I'm also going to apply for a Southwest card to help earn flights. Our drive is about 24 hr from New England.

Others have posted that they really like the Amex Blue.

Hi :)

I'm not sure why you think traveling in June cuts out most of the codes Disney offers? There are codes our right now that are for your time period. www.mousesavers.com

The silver plan is nice, but for most people they end up paying more for the plan than they would if they did, hotel, tickets, and food seperately. Have you considered the cost of doing it seperately?

How long is your trip? An AP may work better than UHP, depending on how long you stay.

There are some great codes out for June.

I used a code for our 6/29-7/6 stay. I hope to get an even better rate when the AP rates come out.

Right now, Disney VISA cardholders can get some pretty good rates for stays from 4/27 thru 7/3 . They include rates as low as $139 per night for AKL, $94/night for moderates and $74/night for All-Stars. Rooms must be booked by 4/26. There is a code and I am assuming it can only be booked using the Disney VISA card.

Considering that those dates encompass peak season, I thought that was pretty good. Too bad they don't fit my travel plans.:( I'm hoping that the deals later on will be as good. For teachers and professors, they would be perfect.

Other rewards cards may offer you a better deal as far as % cashback or other options. My personal preference is the Chase-i MasterCard, which offers 1% cashback in the form of Webcertificates. I have a Webcertificates plastic card that works just like a pre-paid MasterCard and can be used anywhere that Mastercard is taken. It provides me with more flexibility than the Disney Dream Rewards Dollars will and I get my rewards automatically when my total charges exceed $1,000. Since Disney does take MasterCard, I figure it covers me there, too.

There are others who really like their AmEx rewards cards or frequent flier cards. Most large hotel chains have their own frequent guest plans and they also have credit cards to go with them (Marriott and Hilton spring to mind). Their rewards are not limited to hotel stays. Universal offers a Mastercard thru Chase that gives hotel discounts, theme park tickets and other rewards. You might want to research rewards cards before plunging in. Not every card is for everybody.

According to the resort board, as well as the rate I received from DU, these rates are not restricted to the Disney VISA card holders. I think the code is CZF. I booked 5 nights at the POFQ for $94/night.

mattman2k,

As a Cardmember, you'll also receive special bonus offers, such as special deals on vacation packages or merchandise when you use your Disney's Visa® Card.

I don't know if that code is inclusive to card holders or not, but that is where I saw it. I have the feeling that the CM's have not received any info on this new card at all.

My question is if it IS only open to Disney's Visa® Card members--and in the meantime CM's get a lot smarter on the new card, what happens when a person checks in and does NOT have a Disney's Visa® Card? (What would have happened in the olden days with a similar AMEX package?)

Does anyone know?

-DC :)

The CZF code is not the one for Disney VISA cardholders. It is a code for the genaeral public with the same rates. The cardholders have a different code.

looking for any more tips/info on how we do things. we love wdw and just want to make the most of every trip as it is usually our only vacation
thanks,
mikewdw

You might consider booking the Swan or Dolphin for the teacher's rate of $129--great location--walking distance to Epcot and MGM

I remember reading somewhere that if you book a Disney Package on your new card you get 6 months no interest. If you could combien that with a discount code with the card that would be a good savings.

Also, if you do decide to get the disney visa then you may have enough disney reward dollars to use for your souveneirs on your trip. That is what I am hoping to do:D or at least get a character meal out of it. :p

I also recommend getting annual passes - the discounts on hotel rooms alone is enough to make it worth it. IMHO, I don't think the silver plan is worth the money. If you priced everything out separately, you would probably save some money there, too.

We are going to Fort Wilderness in June. I tried calling Disney to use the discount codes posted on the mousesavers.com site, but was told there are no more discounted sites available at FW for the time we are going (6/15 - 6/28). Does anyone here know if AP discounts will work if other codes will not? Any other suggestions? Thanks! - Bob
