We are cruising for the 1st time in August and in antisapation of us really enjoying it I would like to book another one for December(2005) to take full advantage of the early savings and to ensure the cat we would like.

I understand that once you have sailed once with Disney you become a member of the Castaway Club which offers further benifits.

Do I have to wait until I have sailed for the first time to get these benifits or can I book now?

You can book now and then add your Castaway Club information to your reservation once you return from the first cruise. The "benefits" aren't really that overwhelming. There are no discounts, or anything like that. What you get is a stateroom gift, usually a beach towel or tote bag (actually both are pretty nice), an invitation to a Castaway Club reception while on board (free drinks!), and access to the Castaway Club check-in desks at the port. In my experience, the members-only check-in doesn't save you any time. There is usually a "regular" window with a shorter line.

If u have an exsisting reservation with Dcl u can check at the onboard booking desk we have been succeful at getting a lower price and the onboard credit I think she had to cancel the resevation and rebook it to do it but the price was lower and we got the credit
I say book it with DCl then it is easy for them to do this..

Another time she just added the credit to the reservation ...

but if the price is not less u will still have your reservation

When we get home we look to see if dreams is having any further promotions and if so we transfer it to them to get further discounts and still keep the on board credit...

You should wait until you're aboard to book your next cruise. They should give you a 10% discount and a stateroom credit for rebooking another cruise while aboard. After you have booked, then decide if you want to transfer your reservation to another agent. Some offer you the incentive of a rebate for transferring your ressie to them, it could save you another 200.00...Mark

Your best deal anywhere is to book while on a cruise. Travel agents can come close to the rate you get when you book early, but they can't offer any onboard credit.

I booked last year in July while on the 7 day eastern. I was booking for this year in August; they had a special promotion since the new itinerary for the 7 day eastern was now going to include San Juan PR.

The quote was $500 less than the cruise I was currently on and I got a $400 onboard credit. No Travel Agent could come close to that.

Two words: Book Onboard!

Jeff

Many thanks to all of you for your feedback. Looks like I will wait and book whilst on board our cruise in August.

Cheers
