What a Week This Will Be!

Anne, I am still insanely jealous of your job! Nothing beats a good band playing live. Your insane concert schedule makes me tired though! ;)

I am going to use your photography tips again Friday night. Yet another Goo Goo Dolls show, and M&G. Love my Johnny Goo! I've converted my 10 year old niece too - she is coming with me as her early Christmas present (with the ear protection you told me about for Zack). I love being the cool Auntie! :teeth:

Anne, can you tell us again what your job is? You write reviews as well as photograph, don't you? My soon to be 19 year old DS is into shooting and editing digital videos, and wants to get into working with bands, etc. He already has a Canon XL1s camera and MAC G5 for editing. He works with Final Cut Pro, and is getting Adobe AfterEffects for his birthday in a few weeks, and studying film/digital media at the Minneapolis Community and Technical College in January. He seems to have a talent for it. Do you work with any people like this and know how they got into it? Any advice would be great! :goodvibes

Having a 15 year old daughter will keep you up on current music. I took her and some fiends to see Staind, Three Days Grace and 2 others a while back.

Hinder and Black Stone Cherry. The latter is one of the best new bands out there, the former, well, whatever.

I'm a senior staff writer for a local music paper, as well as a photographer. I shoot for the paper as well as for my own business, where I sell the photo's to record labels and other publications around the world. (I just had a photo in a New Zealand rock mag!) I also write freelance for a couple of national music rags.

I don't do video at all. His best bet is to do some searching on the Internet and find out who the various video production companies are and try to get an internship after he graduates. It's almost impossible to get a paying job in any aspect of the music industry without either interning or working at the very, very bottom and working your way up the ladder over the years.

He might want to check with 93X or one of the other stations to see if he can shoot their events for free to get something for his resume. I have a good friend in promotions at 93X, PM me and I'll get you a contact for him to send his resume and cover letter to.

wow, considring the price of a ticket for this show, you'd think he'd really go all out. they are playing a few miles from where i live, i'm glad i didn't "invest" in those tickets.

anne??? where is godsmack playing? down here they are playing at a radio festival in a park. i hate going to open outdoor venues, but wouldn't mind travelling if it's a good location.

TD Waterhouse Center, the arena downtown.

If you go and see a couple of people carrying camera bags into the show--we're both in our 40's and I'm about 5 inches taller than the guy, say hi, that's my friend Mike and I. (It's a small world, that's how I can tell you for sure we'll be the only two photographers headed in that fit that description.)

I like a lot of the bands you listed, but for me, Disturbed takes the cake.. :faint: They've been my favorite band since I was in 8th grade!

Have fun and good luck!

WOW!! You are one lucky person!!!! I just saw Hoobastank with Nickelback in Sept. and they were really good. I love concerts!

Well, one show down, three more to go this week. And two band interviews taht I have to prep for. Tonight is the one I'm probably most excited for, Breaking Benajamin and Godsmack. I've never seen Godsmack (And seeing as how I generally see 50+ shows a year, that's really surprising!) and BB is one of my top five favorite bands.

Candlebox and Hoobastank were OK, in all honesty maybe a bit boring. Some bands don't do well playing longer sets, Hoobastank is one of them. I'd rather see a 40 minute set of their best than 70 minutes of the best and a lot of fill. Evanescence, 3 Doors Down, and Staind are others in that category. I love all of those bands, but I'd rather see them do 40 minutes than 70-90. I guess I feel that way about most bands though. I have a short attention span! :rotfl:

Have a good time at Godsmack. My 5 year old daughter gave them a thumbs down :lmao: . She loved Rob Zombie, but a couple of songs into Godsmack she announced she didn't like them and wanted to leave. It was pretty funny.

Funny. I saw Zombie a couple times this summer and left thinking he had a really smokin' band, but otherwise, whatever." I was expecting Godsmack to be "OK," but they BLEW ME AWAY! Truly one of the three best sets I've seen all year! The double drum solo with Shannon and Sully was simply amazing!

Unfortunately Breaking Benjamin cut their set short, I heard that either Chad or Ben (or both) were really sick. Ah well, at least they played six songs.

As we walked out it was SNOWING!

LOL. I didn't get to see enough of Godsmack to form an opinion of their set. What does a 5 year old know anyway :teeth: . She just liked being close to the flames and pyro, and the the "giant robot" that got hit in his privates (her words) cracked her up. By the time we walked out to watch Godsmack they had already set off a bunch of their pyro, I guess there wasn't enough action for her.
