Yesterday early evening my 19 year old Daughter went to the cinema and said 15 mins into the film a woman behind her was making alot of noise so she turned round to look. The woman then got up and left.
My Daughter said a couple of minutes or so after this she bent down for her bag and found it had been moved from where she put it. Straight away she saw that her Blackberry phone had gone as well as £50 in cash but all of her bank cards were still there (we have cancelled them anyway just to be on the safe side)
Also taken was her provisonal driving licence and a big brown envelope which had her address where she lives whilst at University in Norwich.(there was nothing important inside just module info for next year which was given out to all students in general, nothing had my daughers name on)
The woman though left her National Insurance card and her student card in the purse.
My Daugher left the screening straight away and found the attendant who said that exactly the same thing had happened in the screen next door only she took the womans bag.
The police had already been called and the cinema screens were locked whilst a search was conducted of the building.
Of course the woman was gone!
She has been and made a statement but i doubt there is much they can do now.
Today we have spent contacting the DVLA to let them know, her bank again just to ask them to add a note saying if anyone goes into a branch to try and withdraw money using a provisonal licence as ID do not accept it.
Also we were advised to register her with a company called CIFAS - Credit Industry Fraud Avoidance Scheme. It cost to do so, but we were assured that if anyone tries to get credit in my Daughters name most lenders will be members and will take steps to verify it's actually my daughter. Although the downside is that if she applies for credit or anything it may mean she is declined to begin with but the lender should then contact her to verify her identity. Better to be safe than sorry i think.
What an absolute nightmare.!! oh and to top it all she informed me that she cancelled the insurance on her phone back in October because she couldn't afford it.

I could cry for her i really could but at the same time i am so angry that people can do this!
