What a mess

We have a split stay coming up next week; we're also AP holders. We received 3 sets of Magic Bands each in the mail today. There has to be an easier way...

It's really not that bad. We've been in the same situation.
As long as they are all showing as linked in MDE, you will be fine.
It's kinda nice to have different colors you could interchange depending on how you feel in a day.

If you replace "MagicBand" with "custom ear hat" or "trading pin" would you still consider this to be a mess?

A MagicBand is a souvenir like anything else you can collect at Disney, and if they are willing to throw more at you, that's just even more awesome! You can wear different bands just as easily as you can wear different Disney pins.

One day, when they stop manufacturing these original 7 colors, you'll say "man, I wish I had one of those rare Series 1 yellow bands..."

It does seem like an awful waste of money (that will eventually be wrung out of guests). Can't imagine WHY the MM+ initiative is allegedly near $2Billion.

That is funny that you said that. We too will have 3 sets of MBs for our upcoming May trip (doing a split stay between BC and VWL then added a night onto VWL using cash instead of DVC points which made a new reservation) With that I decided to make each MB set a different color just so that we could end up getting each color offered (except the grey) just because of the reason stated above :goodvibes. I think I have a problem :rotfl2:.

WDW has a fixed price contract on these things, as well as with the shippers. At the margin, there's no additional cost.

3 sets here too. We picked different colors to be fashionably coordinated in the parks and added nicknames or other fun names on them too

No split stay for us, but two sets -- one for annual pass the other for the resort reservations. The Dis boards here reassured me all will be well. Let's hope :worried:

You will have you read my thread I just posted... Beach Club just called me to deactivate or duplicate set... I have a feeling I should take all of them though, just in case...

We'll be taking 5 sets with us next month-- 1 from our Sept trip; 1 set from January; our AP set & 2 sets from the upcoming YC/ BWI split trip! Of course, we have gotten different colors each time, so I plan on color coordinating bands & outfits! :cool1:

I just hope the older sets will open the hotel room door.

Can you actually change the MB by the day? I thought the front desk needed to code the specific MB to be able to open the room door?

We had 5 sets on our trip, as we had 5 different reservations over our two week stay. One day we had a problem opening our room door at kidani but otherwise we were able to use them interchangeably. We ended up wearing our red ones most of the time though as our sorcerers of the MK game was only linked to those bands and didn't come up with the other ones.

No they don't do anything at the front desk. You should tap all your bands to open the door the first day though to make sure they all work.

Two people in the other thread on this subject are saying that with their split stay Disney deactivated one set of bands for "security" reasons. One happened when they checked into the second hotel and the other was called by the Beach Club and told one set would be deactivated. Looks like color coordinated bands and outfits are not going to be possible much longer!

Just make sure your park tickets are attached to the right MB. I had two old MB's from a split-stay w/ family this past February and then 2 more for a split-stay just this past month for a conference. I linked a ticket to my reservation through myDisney and expected it would have been linked to the MB associated w/ the current stay.

No luck, when I got to the gate, my MB would not work and when I went to Guest Services to see what happened they told me my ticket had linked to one of my earlier bands and that I had to bring in the ticket so they could link it to the correct band. Since I hadn't brought it with me, it required a trip back to my resort to get my ticket, and then back to the park. They do recommend that you always bring your paper ticket w/ you just for these types of issues...which he admitted was fairly frequent.

So, it appears a ticket linked through myDisney is actually attached to a specific MB even though there is no way to specify which MB on the website.

Fortunately, according to the CM I was talking to when checking-out, there will soon be an option for someone to opt-out of receiving a new MB for every trip or split-stay and enter in the no. of an old MB to use for a reservation.

Should be interesting...

We each have 6 or 7 active MBs that let us all into the parks. The kids use different bands all the time while I only carry my oldest band.

Never have any issues so Im not sure what issue that poster was having or why Beach Club would call them. That is extremely abnormal.

But tickets aren't attached to the Magic Band, tickets are linked to your MDE account and all your Magic Band does is provide the scanner your MDE ID number to access your account.

By the end of May, we'll have 4 sets of MBs - one for APs, and 3 from different resort stays in March, April, and May. If we end up staying on-site again in July, September, November and December like we're planning to do, then we'll end up with EIGHT sets of MBs. :crazy2: While I like having different color bands to choose from, I think it's ridiculous that the system doesn't recognize that we already have MBs and don't need another set. :confused3

That's what I thought as well, but since the CM @ guest services told me he could "see" the ticket attached to my account but that the MB I had wasn't attached to it, maybe he was referring to the MB not being attached to my account...even though it's the MB I activated at the front desk (NOT the one waiting for me @ the resort however) when I arrived.

Just seems strange that since I used a colored MB that I received prior to my visit to check-in with instead of the grey one waiting for me @ the registration desk (I added an option to my reservation which prompted Disney to generate another MB after the cut-off date for receiving it by mail). All I know is that even though both MB's were "attached" to my account and pointed to my MDE acct, the scanner at the park couldn't read the colored band. But yes, I could open my resort door with either the colored or grey band so they obviously didn't deactivate the grey one I received upon checking-in.

Can only imagine what will happen when Sauron with the one-MB-to-rule-them-all shows up...

I have to figure the actual cost to Disney per band (in such high numbers) is about a buck or two.

Basically, nothing to worry about.
