My nephew knows a friend that works for Air Canada so right now he is staying in Disney I think for 3 nights. Well the flight was only $80.00 return.I think that I should get to know this friend.

is he traveling with his friend? Is he stand by both ways?
My cousin works for AC and in 2001 was able to give us family passes to get back to England when my grandma died suddenly.
However, AC did change the rules for passes... they would only allow immediate family to use passes. Then it changed again... that in order to use a pass, the employee MUST travel with those who were using passes.
Has the rules change again?

My dad's friend worked at AC.

His friend rarely ever used his free flights and discounted tickets. What a waste. They never took their kids anywhere-not even Disney!

The last time we flew on a friends AC pass was in 2002 and she had to be with us when we flew. I can't say if it's changed since then or not :confused3

One of our closest friend is a Captain with Air Canada. We were the happy recipients of many "Buddy Passes" until the rules changed. The passes were essentially stand-by for the cost of the taxes. We never had problems using them & were always able to board because our friend would check the flights & recommended the flights with the most empty seats. (This was before you could do it yourself on the internet.)

The current rules do require the employee to fly with the pass-holder, so we aren't as lucky any more! Our large family & his schedule just don't allow it to work! In fact, we still have a few Buddy Passes sitting in a drawer, but they are worth the paper they are written on..

We have good friends..he is also an AC Captain and we travel with them often on buddy passes. Have been lucky enough to travel to England, Rome, Arizona, Florida many times...last month being the last time. Travel for us is the cost of the taxes...and yes standby. But..we have been fortunate enough a few times to travel business class which is sure something we could get used to!

It did use to be that you could travel without the employee but employee abuse ended that sadly....

Oh well, still sure is nice!

My brother-in-law works for Air Canada and he just booked our Orlando flights last week and he is not travelling with us. He also booked our 2009 tickets (he did not travel with us for this trip either).

You're not travelling on 'buddy passes' there are family passes too...they are different. I think they are something like 25% off...used to be called 'Family affair' not sure if that's still the case..

I'm not sure what the program is called either, but we saved 60% off the rate quoted by our travel agent.

It is Family Affair.

DH works for AC, and I work for Air Transat. His passes are MUCH better than mine. Mine is confirmed, so 2 to 4 weeks before date, more $, but confirmed seats. Of course we get 4 per year, and unlimited standby. That is not much good on our chartered flights, we have NO clue until we show up at the airport what our stand is.

DH can check online, and we are C1's, since he is management. We have been bumped< NOT FUN, we basically knew in advance and went with the roll. The $ works for us. We take many long weekends this way, and have some Zed fare back ups in case we need them, and if we don't we get refunded.

I know..the standby isn't much fun sometimes. We travelled back with our friends last November from FLL..we all were bumped off of the 1st departure out of Miami so headed to FLL. There were 2 seats in business available so my friend and I took those and the guys (her husband) and mine took the next flight which was many hours later. We each had to travel with an AC employee. We are all travelling to Germany this May but I decided to use Aeroplan points for those flights as we are connecting to a River cruise and really need to know we are good to get there and home too! Friends hubby, as mentioned is a Captain and using his 25 or 30 year ?? confirmed pass which he tells me he can 'still' be bumped with! That sure doesn't seem right to me but there you have it.

Many years back I worked for Wardair..wow am I dating myself now...and we were allowed 1 confirmed pass a year and they wouldn't have dared touch it.

Times they change...:confused3

It sounds like I need to get a job at Air Canada.

It, like anything else, has it's good and it's bad.

I love LOVE LOVE working for the airlines. I work 3 days per week (air transat), have all benefits of a full timer, and love it very much. I feel we are treatly exceptionally well. I worked for Air Canada, but strangely enough, I am happier where I am.

I mean, holidays are hard, we are open 24 hrs per day, 7 days a week. I no longer am at the airport, so we are closed XMAS DAY AND NEW YEARS DAY, that is it. THe first few years, while my seniority rose, I had to work a lot of holidays, but the $ is excellent. I now decide, if it works for my family, to work one or not.

It is a passion for myself. I love to travel, I love helping anyone else travel, lol, so it all ties together.

Everything does indeed have it's good and bad...I remember working holidays as well as the horrible shift work. 0445 starts back then...Many of the folks I worked with at WD of course are now long time AC employees and I tell you..when I hear the $$ they make now at the airport..wow...of course, they have put in 30++ years!

I am a TA and a girl I work with there works at Westjet part time..pretty nice perks there too. She was going to leave finding it too much with her other job but they told her she can work only when she wants so she has it both ways. Perfect.:confused3
