Saturday 11th December
After a good nights sleep at the holiday Inn I was woke by my mobile ringing and Tina saying they were going back to the Islands of adventure as her friend (Jan)and son (Toby) had arrived the previous evening and they really wanted to see Harry Potter land. We however really wanted to see Universal and we decided to meet up for the macys parade later in the day.
So we headed off to Universal and got there at just after 9.30. The queue to get in was nowhere near as bad as yesterday and we were soon inside the park !!
We wandered off towards the back of the park and thought we would make our way back to the entrance so when Tina called we would be in the right area.
As we were wandering about it hit us that we had not seen a single person since we had entered the park and it really was dead!!
As we got near the simpsons ride we saw Homer standig by the kwik e mart and as he was alone it would have been rude not to say Hi
The boys all wanted to ride but Keia very firmly said NO chance as her last go had made her feel sick!! So we patiently waited for them to ride. Where we were sitting we could see Homer go in and have a rest and was delighted to see Marge come out !! Keira jumped up and took up a sprint across to where Marge was standing!
She had a massive hug from Marge who had seen her coming and had extended her arms for her to run into !! Too cute !!
Then we wandered straight over to Men in Black - our family love this ride and we rode it 4 times in a row each time with such a small wait time it was practically walk on!! The attendant on our 3rd go told us we didnt have to walk all way round we could simply go staright back across the bridge unless the queue got busier and it got roped off !!!
We left the area after wrestling with the lockers and the stupid fingerprint machine not recognising me!! It never does I just must have unreadable fingers!!
Cam and Wayne went to ride the Mummy and the rest of us stood and watched the blues brothers christmas show! Keira was dancing away and clapping her hands. I loved it and it was a real feel good show, just before the end Cam and wayne appeared - Perfect timing!!
Just as we were deciding where to next. Tina phoned and said she was on her way over to Universal.
Tina managed somehow to volunteer to take all the kids into the shrek 4d whilst Emily, wayne, Jan, Cam and Me went to ride rip ride rock it.
Cam and I got seated and then an announcement went out that the ride was down for a few minutes - really not the best place to be when they say they have a technical hitch!! We sat for a few minutes and then the ride was apparently working again- eeek!!
Wayne said what they were actually doing was adding extra cars to the track and this involves taking a piece of track out and then sliding it back into place - Im suddenly very happy we were already seated and didnt see this happen.
Cam was sat as calm as a cucumber whilst I was resisting the urge to ask the attendant if anyone had ever died on this ride !!
Then we were off - the climb is the weirdest sensation ever you literally are at 90 degrees to the track !! The ride is amazing and im so glad we got to experience it. Emily and Jan screamed the whole way round.
Cam was just as calm and collected when it had finished and just asked if it was ok to ride again !!
We eventually met back with Tina who seemed to take ages to come out of Shrek.
The kids ran over to say hello to Shrek who again had no wait!!
It was now time for a sit down and a quick snack !
Funnel cakes and Ice creams all round and we sat by the lake behind Amity tours enjoying the little bit of warmth that had suddenly appeared!
A quick spin on Jaws which saw Jan move so quickly to the other side of the boat I thought there was a danger of her tipping it
We then made our way back to M.I.B and simpsons and the kids had a ball in the coke Zone seriously standing in a coke bottle being sprayed with water appeared to be the highlight of their day.
Tina was asking to go and find E.T and for the first time all day was really excited to see her extra terristal friend.
The kids played for a bit in the playground whilst the adults just chilled.
Macys parade was on at 5 today so at 4.30 we summoned the kids and made our way over to the parade route. It was already quite busy whith people waiting. Wicket2005 had told me to try to be near the christmas tree so we wandered in that direction but sadly had to make do with just round the corner by Twister. Where I very happily sat on the floor and rested my legs.
The parade again was NICE but not quite a Disney parade. Toby kept shouting at all the handlers "Happy Holidays!!" which amused us adults endlessly as we were sure he didnt realise he was actually wishing them Merry Christmas!!
After the parade Tina, Jan, Emily and Toby made their way back to the hotel and we went into Twister as Cam had been nagging all day to go in there.
Keira was scared to death in here and was actually shaking when we exited. Cam after all his nagging had decided "it was the worst ride ever - actually Im not that sure its a ride !!"
We left the park and made our way back to the villa after an amazing 2 days in Universal. It was lovely to meet Tina and friends and I hope when she reads this she will agree it was a busy but fun packed couple of days!!
