Not quite sure how to put this so it might get long.....DBF is not a traveler. Lived in NH all of his life, never even been to Maine or Boston etc. He's a pretty simple man, goes to work, comes home and thats about it. Spends his extra $$ on his truck, (which is fine by me...)

I on the other hand, grew up with a single mom who thought day trips and fri/sat night vacations were the perfect idea for a vacation since thats all we could afford. As I got older, mom was more financially secure, and we started flying to different locations. Usually one of my uncle's was stationed there, ie. San Diego etc. I've been to Texas 7 times, Montana, Washington, CA, FL etc... I've driven a couple times to Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach etc. And Maine, well I've done that couple long weekends every summer since I had my kids...

The other day I was thinking of going away for a weekend with DBF, possibly to NYC or Boston. The more I got to looking into it, its not really his cup of tea, so I started looking north- to the White Mountains, North Conway area. That would be up his alley. He enjoys the outdoors etc,... so I find this suite place... www.adventuresuites.com Which looked incredible. They have all these suites that are themed. I emailed them and found out the rate for a couple of the rooms, and didnt think they were that bad- 159-179 a night. I asked DBF to put in for the friday off that is the weekend I wanted to go, but he wouldnt do it unless I told him why. For some reason he cant just take "trust me on this" for an answer..LOL...so I showed him. Well I thought I could do it without him seeing rack rates. No luck. He saw the nightly cost. He said its too much $$...i explained that up there, even a regular king room with a jacuzzi in it is going to be 149 (I checked at a diff hotel) and the 30 bucks is worth it for the theme of the room..like disney- you pay for the atmosphere.

Yesterday he was at work, sent me a text message that I can do whatever it is I want, he'll take the day off. I knew he was still upset about the money aspect of it. He's not a spender by any means, simply because he doenst have much 'extra'....well, I'm a spender, but am not in debt, so I guess I can be. I planned this for the last weekend in April, because I can use my income taxes for it, and it wont take away from any bill that needs to be paid etc.

Now I know he will be happy once he gets there, and we will have a excellent time but...should I just compromise and get the regular room without telling him....or book just saturday instead of both fri/sat ....its only about 1.5 hours away so its not that big of a deal either way...

oh what to do what to do...

You know sometimes men will say something even if they dont mean it, simply to get ya to shut up about it....well...thats what I think he's doing

I'd stay in the better room for the whole weekend. He'll end up glad you did. Who knows - maybe this will lead to a weeklong vacation at the Grand Floridian LOL!! Baby Steps rights? :sunny:

Quite honestly I would go for the whole weekend, maybe you can hook him on some other travels, but really, I am one who likes to travel and one who has traveled, and could never see myself stuck with someone who only wants to stay home! There is just to much of this world and country to see, and now is your perfect time before it gets harder when children come along, it is also a good time to se how you two do with out the support system of your family or friends. I once dated a guy who had never even been on a plane! (40) he was content to stay home all the time and had no inclinations to see anything other than our town and the backyard! So go and maybe he will realize that there is more out there and although money is tight you can still have a good time on a budget!

well, the kids are "already here" so to speak, we both have them from previous relationships....

Aight, ya'll put me up to it, I'll book it for both Friday and Saturday...love shack here we come LOL
