We've decided, making the switch from WL to POR.

Got my wife's buy-in last night. She wasn't to enthused, until I showed her some pictures of POR, and then she was all for it.

Nothing against WL, just looks like we'll have as good a time at POR, and it'll save us $500, which is always good. Plus, we are taking my parents, and I know my mom will prefer the old southern charm of POR moreso than the WL theming.

Our trip is in Oct, and I emailed my agent last night to see about getting everything switched. I am actually more excited about POR than I was about WL, for some reason.

Thanks for all of your help.

Andy

You'll love POR, it's our favorite (and a lot of other people's). All the rooms have recently been redone and the landscaping is just beautiful.
The food court has some good choices and their sit down restuarant (Boatwright's) is very nice.
"Bob Jackson" plays in the lounge area (strictly family oriented) and is not to be missed. The quiet pools, carriage rides and boat to DTD are additional perks.
I could go on and on, have a great time.
Glad to answer any questions you have.

I love POR and you will too !! The beautiful landscaping, the southern theme, the first thing you hear as you walk out the door each morning is the birds singing and you see the bunnies running accross the grass. Also, the boat to downtown Disney is very convenient and the ride is very relaxing. You can rent bikes, boats and even go fishing (catch and release ) or just sit by the pool bar on a rocking chair and just people watch. I love POR so much, that, last October we chose to stay there for the last 2 nights after spending 4 days at the Poly. Even though, we downgraded from a deluxe to a moderate we really and truly enjoyed our stay as much as we enjoyed the Poly.

You made a great choice :goodvibes

Both resorts are equally as beautiful, I love them both! My ONLY complaint about POR is the bus system, be prepared for a lot of waiting and most of the time standing on the bus. But other than that I love it! Have a great time! And congrats on saving the money! :teeth:

BTW, I completely agree with the boat ride to DTD. Very relaxing and one of my favorite things about this resort. Be sure to ride this.

Well, we drive down, so we will have our vehicle if the waits are too long. Last time we went we stayed at AKL, with our then 4 year old daughter. Was nice to have the van then, because we didn't have to try to lug the stroller onto the buses. I think we only took the bus once. So, I am not too worried about the bus situation, but thanks for the warning.

We will definitely be taking the boat to DTD at least once. Nice thing about going with the parents is that we have built-in babysitters. So, the wife and I will probably go to DTD for a dinner while they are there.

Thanks,
Andy

We actually prefer POR to WL. I don't believe you'll be disappointed. We always rent a car, but have not had problems with transportation at POR. The bus service is much better at POR than at WL. At WL, depending on the route, you share with Fort Wilderness and/or Grand Floridian. POR is just POR and P-FQ.

Enjoy the $500!

Yes, I am thinking we will prefer POR to WL as well, even without the savings. The grounds just look a lot more interesting, more places to explore. I was also concerned about the pool at WL, didn't look very large for as big as the resort is, and the slide looked kind of small (my daughter has to have a good slide... :) ) The pool at POR looks big enough, and the slide looks longer. Aside from that, there are several quiet pools, so we should be set there.

Really though, it was the theming and the grounds that did it for me. Just looks like a fun place to be. Not that WL wouldn't be, but something about POR is more inviting to me.

Just received confirmation from our agent that she was able to switch us over from WL to POR with our AAA discount. Our 7 night stay went from $1319 to $835, room only. I am happy now.

Can someone please talk about the different rooms or different sections of POR (Mansions and Bayou)? Are there different sections at POFQ also? I've never stayed at either resort.

thanx.

There are lots of pros & cons to each resort. You will have a wonderful time! Enjoy! I look forward to hearing a trip or hotel report from you when you get back!

It's gonna be a while, but I will definitely post something when we get back. Oct 2-9 are our dates.

Hi Rhonda922 :wave2:

We were at POR last week. We stayed in the mansions (Magnolia Terrace) this year and stayed at the bayou last year (Bldg 14). The rooms are the exact same size. The difference is the decor. While the mansion rooms have a bit more elegance to the decor (cherry wood furniture) the bayou rooms have the thick "log" style decor. The bayou area has more trees and is in a more wooded area while the mansions stand in grandeur within the beautiful landscape. If needed, the mansions have elevators while the AB rooms do not. The mansions have a privacy curtain between the bathroom/sink area and the beds. Nice for early morning risers and those that share the room with children. Having stayed at both, I prefer the mansions. My opinion only. Many people love the AB section. Actually, as long as I was staying at POR, either section would be nice.

As for POFQ, I'm not aware of different sections like POR. They have different street names. To me, POFQ looks like a really nice hotel. Again, my opinion. It just doesn't have the landscaping that POR is famous for.

Either way, have fun making those Disney memories! :cheer2:
