Wet dinner at t-Rex

Omg! I wonder what happened exactly. I remember when I went there when I was younger and I was always scared that exact same thing would happen next to my table lol. Glad the fishies are ok though!

Goodness! Glad all people and fish are okay. Better here than Coral Reef, though.

I saw this as well. Crazy!

Looks like the sealant must have given way on that seam. I've never seen anything like that happen before.

I feel bad for the people who were sitting at that table, and the fish!

Talk about fresh fish on the menu! In all seriousness I am glad the fishies are okay and no one was injured.

I don't believe there is any sealant or seams. As far as I know, those tanks are one piece acrylic tanks (well, at least the tube part is one piece, top / bottom are separate) which leads me to believe that the leak was caused by a crack in the acrylic.

Have you guys noticed on the intro to Animal Planets Tanked they show the bar tank at TRex? Wonder if this was one of theirs also?

I wondered the same thing! If it is, ATM is going to Disney World. ;)

The tank is Acrylic and they use a special type of epoxy that melts the two ends togetherto help keep this from happening. As you can see it will at times fail lol. I have a salt water aquarium and I am leary of Acrylic tanks for this reason and they scratch easily.

That's just what I was thinking!

That was my first thought too! Every trip I let each family member pick a place and Coral Reef is my son's pick for the next trip. I'll bet Downtown Disney was jumping that day. Bad pun intended. Glad the employees saved the fish.

The comments on some of the local news sites (FB articles) are ridiculous. :lmao: People are blaming Disney even though it's not a Disney owned restaurant, saying Disney will raise prices more, say they'll never go to Disney now, etc. I mean, come on! :rolleyes2

They use an acrylic glue that essentially fuses the acrylic together. I have a friend that builds and services tanks. It is critical when gluing to get every single air bubble out, but sometimes there can be tiny ones that you don't see. Even one tiny air bubble can mean failure of the bond at some point.

Just saw someone post this on Instagram!

Apparently the fish tank met Darla!!! Word has it, three employees climbed and and we're able to save all the fish. Whoops :scared1:

:rotfl2: Sorry for those that got wet, but that will be a memory and story to tell forever.
